We live in a society that pushes drugs on us as a matter of routine. Instead of referring us to natural/low intrusive remedies, we are encouraged to take the birth control pill - some of us for decades. The birth control pill comes with many side effect including bloating, migraines, mood changes, and weight gains. In some cases, it can cause clots or strokes. Despite this, many of us grow up thinking that it is one of the only alternatives for long-term, non-barrier birth control. We never hear about natural methods in school or through our doctor.
This book shows us there is another option. In Taking Control of Your Fertility we learn about the FAM method with rules for basal temperature charting and cervical mucus. The FAM method is highly effective, both as a method of birth control and also for helping to conceive. This book teaches us to learn our cycles. Even if not used as your primary method of birth control, by charting your cycles, you learn your cycles, which can help you identify problems and areas of concern.
I highly recommend this book - this material should be more mainstream.

It taught me the importance of charting. I use it for my first and only pregnancy/child so far and I am grateful that I had read it and used it. The charting helped me to pinpoint exactly the ovulation date and learn about sexual reproduction time frames and intricacies in general. You do NOT get to learn this in school. Women of all ages can benefit greatly from this type of detail but unfortunately it is not being taught.

This book is incredibly educational, especially when you are trying to conceive.
I thought I knew everything about my body. I was wrong. I really had no idea about the very small window of fertile days that women have (and other things!).
It really pushes the idea of charting, which is something that I knew nothing about. I really believe it would have taken me a lot longer to conceive without charting, and this book breaks that down for you (and so much more)! The blank charts at the back are also helpful.
I've recommended this book to many friends and have lent my copy out to family. Every woman should read this book!

So I purchased this book about a month ago and I've been picking away at it ever since. It's actually changed my approach to tracing my cycles, and I think it's made me much more aware and in-tune with my body. It's actually helped me predict ovulation (accurately, might I add) and it's not difficult to read at all. Will continue to use this and would recommend to anybody looking to conceive. I PERSONALLY wouldn't use this method as a way of preventing pregnancy, but I guess if you're comfortable taking a more natural approach then it might be okay.

if it was up to me, this book would be taught in schools! So important for women and men to know about how their bodies work... I've been tracking my menstrual cycle for a couple months and I can't get over how easy it is and how accurate it is! I'm charting now for birth control and to see what symptoms may be linked to my hormone levels but this book also gave me a great deal of information and peace with my past miscarriages and I can see the potential in this book to prevent peoples struggles with infertility and other reproductive health issues.

A true wealth of knowledge about fertility for both those trying to gain and avoid pregnancy! Or just understand their irregular cycles a bit better. This is one of the most worthwhile books I have ever read, full of great information for women. And men trying to understand women. ;)
As someone planning to get married this summer, this was exactly the resource that I needed to understand and take charge of my own fertility. I wasn't very keen on the idea of the birth control pill, and my friend passed this book along to me. I learned so much that I really should have known before about my body!
Charting is really quite easy with all the apps available these days. I've been happy with the free app Kindara. When FAMnerd gets released, I am definitely interested in looking into that too. It really doesn't take very long to chart, and I really like having such a good understanding of what my body is doing and why.
Definitely recommended!!!!!

I was glued to this book for 2 days straight, and read it front to back (even the appendicies). This book provides knowledge and education surrounding fertility and natural birth control. After reading it, it is shocking to realize this wasnt taught to me in nursing school to teach families and women. This should be common knowledge, and should be practiced before the use of medications and diagnostic tests. Great read, great book!

Great Book

This book is an eyeopener for everyone. It made me figure out that the female cycle is quite different to what they teach you at school. It talks mainly about the temperature method but ever since reading the book and using the methods my life has completely changed. I absolutely love this book and reccomend it to anyone, if struggling with fertility, wanting to learn more about it or when looking for natural prevention methods.
The method works great on me after I had been diagnosed with PCOS and was told I will always have issues with my fertility. It's an absolutely great read and you learn more about your body than you thought you knew.

I was super nervous to be coming off the pill (the fake hormones are driving me nuts), but after reading this book, I know everything I need to, and more! Thank you.

Yes it's providing me with a greater insight into fertility awareness as I'm breast feeding so needed specific advice. I only wish I could contact the author as still unsure about a few things. Other then that I'd def recommend for those trying for a baby. Advice on the correct types of thermometers and lubricants or ovulation kits are Also detailed. Took quite a while to arrive but worth the wait.

My son wouldn't exist if I hadn't read this book.

I wouldn't have been able to become pregnant without it. It's as simple as that!
Note that when trying to conceive it's not relevant if you never have periods. Otherwise very highly recommended.

This is possibly the best book I have ever bought!

This is possibly the best book I have ever bought. I bought in in good used condition and it is perfect. It is very informative and is not as "dry" as some similar books making it very easy to read and understand. My husband has also read it and seems to understand it despite having very little knowledge prior to this.
Since reading this book, I have used the method described in the book to avoid pregnancy for two years which I think proves its efficacy!!
