Devon Walker has one chance to turn her life around.
A half-wit ogre, a legion of overgrown jungle beasts, and a power-tripping AI are trying to stop her.
#1 Bestseller in Role Playing and Fantasy | #1 Bestseller in Video Game Adaptations | #1 Bestseller in Metaphysical and Visionary Fantasy | #1 Bestseller in Dragons & Mythical Creatures | #1 Bestseller in Cyberpunk | #1 Bestseller in Virtual Reality
Relic Online is the hottest new game out there, and it’s Devon Walker’s best hope for escaping her hard-knock life. Thanks to her rocking achievements in other games, she’s been hired as a salaried player. Even better, her new position comes with cutting-edge implants that turn RO’s virtual reality into a full sensory explosion. Her only task? Drive the game’s creator AI to the outermost limits of its creativity.
Sounds easy, right?
But when Devon logs in, her expectations shatter like an ice golem hit with a sonic blast. Wearing nothing but a cloth tunic and ragged pants, she spawns inside a ruined city overgrown by steamy jungle. With zero skills and nothing in her inventory but pocket lint, she immediately runs afoul of the city’s guardian, a stone golem the size of an apartment building. The encounter does not go well.
And Relic Online is just getting started with her.

This is a fantastic book. The story is told well. I am looking forward to reading more of the series.

Well this was a rather enjoyable story. I already have books 2 & 3 downloaded. I seem to keep hoping that we will get full immersion games, I would so enjoy getting lost in a 🌎 like this.

But a still somewhat painful read. Sarcastic AI is annoying, not funny. Casual gamer MC is not the least bit interesting, and I'm questioning the basic intellect of her recruiter/boss. Almost stopped at 50%, but finished in order to leave an honest review

Love this story...more!

This book is really enjoyable. It's well written, with a relatable protagonist. Descriptions don't get bogged down in discussions of stats, and the pacing is quite good. Some of the magic is fresh and original, which makes a great change. All in all, recommended!

Interested to see where the story goes. Especially like that the MC of the story does not sneeze and gain 18 levels before they have wiped their nose.

feels like the MC lacks real characterusterics. The story is too fast paced in some parts yet slow in others. feels like the author rushed to finish
finally the AI is not a well rounded character and is more annoying than really funny

A delightful mix of scifi and fantasy, and a gamer's delight!

I'm pretty demanding of my authors, and I'm a voracious reader. That, of course, leaves me having to find more authors to read as I tend to run through series in weeks..
Some books I'll read for an hour or so, then simply get rid of them.. Some I'll read and find it a decent passtime.
Every now and then, there'll be an author that comes to light that can write in a style that actually has me lying awake at night running quickly through the pages, waiting to see what's just around the corner.
That's a mix of story and style. A good story doesn't count for much if the style breaks the suspension of disbelief and jars you out of the imagery they conjure up.. And a good style is useless if it goes nowhere and leaves you thinking "So what?"..
I picked this up because of a Facebook ad, where the Author herself was humorously answering questions under the ad.. One of them made me laugh, so I picked it up just because of that, and I haven't been disappointed.
She carves out an interesting world inside a world. Her experience as a game coder shows in the tech side (nothing makes me groan like badly written pseudo tech, as I'm in a related field), and the design of the environment (and also the trials of game players; the good, the bad, the bland and the interesting).
Couple that with some intrigue that happens on several different levels, and it's a winner.
Now I just have to curse her slightly for being slightly zombified when I wake up in the morning needing an extra mug of coffee to engage the brain as I stayed awake a little later than I really should, just to get the next bit of story!

A good mix of base building, exploring and adventuring
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on August 27, 2019Verified Purchase
This story is a good mix of base building, exploring and adventuring with a hint of intrigue thrown in for good measure. The story starts without much in the way of LitRPG elements although it is in a game, but this is just to set up the actual story. Once the main character gets into the game that the story revolves around, the standard expected LitRPG elements are there with stats, skills, levels etc. These elements are not intrusive but work well with the story, complementing each other to form a seamless whole.
The story goes between the game world and the real world and each sect in progresses the whole. There is an over-arching story line, both in and out of the game that I assume is going to span the whole series (or at least the current section of it) as well as clear quest/goal for this book which reaches a satisfying conclusion by the end of this book.
The main character is likeable without being a complete goody-two-shoes and the game mechanics have some novel aspects as well as the tried and true classics.
Highly recommended!

Really good read.

Slightly slow start (though relevant as the book progresses) but this was a really good book in this Genre. The MC was very good, the game world very well thought out and really playable. Quietly in the background there is a RL plot building (with more clearly to come) and it made for a very good Sunday read in the garden with a bottle of Rose..
Very good game world, with great mecanics and a game world I would like to go too.
Very commendable book and I look forward to book two and I will read other books by the author.

Great start to a new series.

After working my way through several little series (Awaken Online, The Land, Completion Chronicles etc) I honestly thought I would have to take a break from.the genre because I had read all the decent releases but by happy accident discovered Carrie Summer's Stonehaven League series. The first book I've read that has a female protagonist and I was not disappointed. MC is great and the blend of adventuring, dungeon diving and town building accounts for all tastes. It's also nice that it sets up to the entry into the gameworld rather than just thrusting you into it. But enough waffling, book is ace and if you like little then it's a.no brainer you're going to like this book. Straight.into the 2nd for me. F2f Me Summers, gg.

There was the occasional shift in point of view which I'm not really a fan of. The overall writing style of book was pretty good though and I was quite happy to see a female MC. The MC's tactical thinking was pretty damn good and the inventive use of game/world mechanics to take on her enemies near the end were pretty damned wow!
