This was a GREAT introduction to the potty. I read this to my son for a few days prior to “revealing the big box” to him (which had his potty in). The book gave a great setup on making it exciting.
The book also shows the boy not making it to the potty on time and having mistakes but that it’s okay because it’s all a process.
It teaches that they need patience with themselves while they are training, and that sometimes they will just need to sit there for awhile with a book or singing.
I recommend.

Great book! My son started potty training at 2.5 and I got him this book and “too big for diapers” book, they both very different books: this one has much longer story and the other one more like short sentences, so they pretty much like opposites, but my son loved them both so much. He picked up pretty quickly and if he needs to go potty he yells: bye bye pee, bye bye poop (the words from the book), it’s just so funny when he does it. Anyways, really nice book!!

My child’s daycare introduced this book to me. They originally gave us a photocopy version with his name added instead of the name in the book. When I read it to him he is so motivated to use the potty. Definitely recommend!

I read this book to my son for the first time tonight. He is still a little while away from potty training (21 months old), but at his age, he can definitely understand the terminology and illustrations.
The Potty Book for Boys is a great first step to get your son ready to potty train. It is the ultimate book for pre-potty-training training :)

My son took to this book immediately! It is very well planned out and written. My little guy wanted to listen to the “Henry” book 3 times before bed and then had to go have a try on the pottie just like Henry. Excellent book as a helpful tool in potty training and highly recommend.

This is such a good book to get a little one starting to think about the potty. The title might be misleading because although the main character, Henry, is a boy the story would work fine for a little girl as well.

My son loves this book. He just turned 2. He brings this book to me at least 3 times a day to read. He knows it so well that he finishes off the sentence and reads along with me. Not only is this a good book to read for you child when training but it also is a good book for your little one to follow along with words.

Beautiful potty training book (but clearly US!)

My nearly 2 year old loves this book. It has a story about a little boy and his teddy who is just starting out potty training. It is a lovely quality feeling book too with lovely illustrations. It uses the American word 'diaper' instead of 'nappy' but as my son cant read yet, I just say 'nappy'!

Perfect reading for on the potty or toilet time.

I started potty training my son when he was 2.5 years old (training completed over the Christmas break 2020). Since the Potty Book for Girls worked so well for his big sister 2.5 years previously, I got him this one for boys. He is an early reader, so he actually reads the book out loud to us when he is doing his business on the toilet. He loves saying that he is a big boy like Henry, the main character in the story. Even though my son is potty trained now, he still goes back to the book to entertain himself!

My son likes it but...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 9, 2011Verified Purchase
I would have given it a 3.5 if I was able to but you can't and I couldn't justify a 4. My son likes this book but as a parent it is really hard for me to read. I dread it actually. It is a little long for toddler of two. There is one point in the book that is a little confusing. The little boy has an accident twice, once on the floor and once in his pants and how it is presented is confusing and doesn't flow well. The wording doesn't flow smoothly and the rhyming is just horrible in spots. In spite of all that my son prefers this book over his other one. He likes it to be read to him at least twice a day and I do think he is relating to it. I guess in the end it isn't about whether or not I like the book but rather whether it engages the child and prompts him to think about the potty. This book does that.

American English :/

My only issue with this book is that like many childrens books it hasn't been reprinted in the UK and is American English. We don't call nappies DIAPERS!!! I'm also teaching my 19 month old to read so I'm not keen on having to change the word as I'm reading it.
I have massive issues with this as children fail spelling tests in schools for the same reason.
If I knew it was an American book using words like MOM etc I wouldn't have bought.
Having said that my little boy does enjoy it.

My son's favourite book at the moment!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 15, 2010Verified Purchase
I bought this book for my little boy a few months ago now (well in advance of starting potty training - he's still not yet two, so I'll wait a while as yet), but it has turned out to be his favourtie book before bed and naps and he can't wait to read his 'Henry' book.
This is a really sweet book about Henry who's just got his first potty and the illustrations are really lovely too (my son likes to point out Henry's teddy, the toothpaste, etc. so it isn't purely a potty training exercise).
We have this book and Once Apon A Potty (Boy) by Alona Frankel, which I also like but I think this has a slight edge - for me anyway - as its much more of a story book.
