It was then I discovered I'd missed reviewing #townisbythesea #joanneschwartz #sydneysmith I had talked plenty about this special piece of #Canadiana . I'd photographed it a number of times too . I'd given as a 🎁 to a precocious grand-nephew whose mother (my nephew's wife) is from the East Coast of Canada. I was so excited to find such a Book that I guess it slipped my mind. I take seriously the book gifts I give to family! Years after (years and years from now lol) I hope Lewis will recall the story he was given. That it makes him curious about his East Coast roots; that he visits the sea often where his Mother is from , and that he might share the book with his children. I hope he recalls a Great Aunt (a young one) lol who loved Picture 📚and gave him the gift of story. You can tell a book gift must make the grade with me; in story, in text, in beauty, in illustrations, and in something that I believe is here to stay. Town Is By The Sea is such a Book. Sometimes we encounter a collaboration between author and illustrator; (many who do not meet until months after the 📚 is published I've observed) interpreted without distractions. It's then the reader expects to see only one name on the book jacket. It's clear both the author and the illustrator have childhood memories of the East Coast. The young reader and the adult will find the book's cover hypnotic. The warmth and reality of hard working families seen through the eyes of a little boy is told with truth and affection. Local dialogue interspersed here and there gives 'Down East' authenticity to the story. Yes, Town is by the Sea - She was a good 🎁 and she was great 📚 for a little 'b'y' his 'motter' too' 💕🎁📚🇨🇦(I reread Town is by The Sea this weekend while visiting a town on the shores of #GeorgianBay where I grew up. #meafordontario The day was cold and the water was rough much like I imagined the sea might be.
