The silver lining is that my daughter was forced to make the long ride herself and is a way better cyclist now.
Moral of the story is to trust your kids cycling abilities.
Like you can see with the reviews, installation is critical. I found that you need to tighten most connectors (particularly the mount on the seat post and the attachment on the kids bike) as hard as possible, past the point you would normally go. Yes, particularly the attachment for the kids bike will damage the paint, but we knew we were keeping the bike for three kids, so not that concerned for us. You could try some hockey tape or an old inner tube under the mount, but i'm not sure you would be able to get things tight enough not to wobble.
After that, it was amazing for about 2 years. We definitely used it outside of it's intended use (technical mountain biking) and even with rocky, technical trails, never had any issues with it. I found the little hook that attaches to your axle/quick release to not be very sturdy/useful, so I just wrapped part of my frame with procetive tape and then use a bungee cord to fasten the bar when not in use (it also sticks out less this way).
I am only giving it 4 stars because the bar develops a bit of play after a lot of use (again we use it for riding outside of the manufacturers recommendations). I contacted the parent company and they were super responsive, but said that there aren't any bushings, etc to replace, so we have to replace the whole bar.
All of that said, we are buying another one because for its ease of use and price, i don't think you can beat it.
Like many other reviews say, It is not safe. Lets start with problems:
1) zero instructions, or whatever it comes with is either incorrect or inadequate. Spent more than 4 hours trying to assemble this.
2) The design is very particular about which bike it will work on.
3) Certain components do not fit together.
4) Did I mention, its not safe? I will NEVER let my daughter sit on it and ride even 1 feet. It is extremely unsafe.
I have done more than 1700kms on my WeeHoo trailer, The reason I was looking for another trailer attachment is to let my daughter enjoy riding a real bike that can take us to trails, and she can ride by herself. I would still use WeeHoo. Its a waste of money buying this product. Save your money and go to Weehoo. More expensive, but it works. I can put another 1700 on my Weehoo without a problem.
Top reviews from other countries

1) You need to ead the instructions to set it up. it took me about a hour, maybe an hour and half, by myself.
2) the part which you screw onto the childs bike needs to be completely forwards facing and totally aligned to the front of the bike. otherwise you may have issues like tilting. On initial setup i went for a ride with daughter and it was totally secure, but there was a very slight tilt to one side. wife pointed it out and i checked and re aligned the clamp of childs bike (which I hadnt aligned quite fully initially) then all was fine.
3) The trailer is secure, and sturdy, quick to conenct and disconnect, and folds away very neatly and is held well when not in use by the holder which comes with it. I keep it permanently on my bike.
4) its really fun and as a family its been great: my daughter is 4. she now is able to join us on log rides e.g. the trailer arrived on saturday. its been 5 days, and we have covered about 50KM as a family. my daughter loves it. she keeps asking about when we are next going for a ride.
5) WOuld i reccomend? i would say yes. Read the reviews. educate yourself. but as someone who was concerned about safety, i have no regrets having purchased trailgator. I think one small benefit is also that, if your child doesnt know how to ride a bike, (like my daughter), the trailgator is a great way to teach them the concept of balancing. My daughter is learning very fast now.

Fazit: Eltern glücklich, Kinder glücklich, was will man mehr 😁
