I think these book are some kind of test.
To see just how long I can function in the real world without sleep.
Action packed , pretty relentless infected, sorry I mistakenly called them zombies in an earlier review. These infected have way more scary skills.
All the characters are evolving at a steady pace.Sorry to lose some of the good folk, but BIG YAY when the bad folk get their just deserts.
I'll keep going because it's a different take on the usual apocalyptic book, which makes it fresh and keeps me interested.
Of course that would all change should any travesty happen to 🐕.I love him the most.

So here's what happens. I wait months for the next installment and then read it in a few hours. This then causes me more misery as I know I will have to wait more months as Mr Patton unfortunately does not write a book every week (damn you Dirk!).
This series keeps on getting better and it was already fantastic from the beginning. Great characters that you feel for and share their pain and happiness. This is the best zombie/infected series on the market by a long way and I have read most of them! All I can say is "roll on book 6"

Still enjoying this as I read book 5

Reached V Plague Book 5 and enjoying the series tho it's starting to get a wee bit repetitive which in a ten book series is I guess inevitable. Sometimes you just want a slightly longer respite from the intensity of fighting the infected, the Russians, each other etc. but no mistake this does keep your interest and is an impressive read for anyone like me who enjoys Prepper / survivalist fiction on a grand scale.

... books have to make up what is now my favourite series in this genre
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on December 11, 2014Verified Purchase
These books have to make up what is now my favourite series in this genre. The main characters have stayed throughout the five books so that we now know them well and they are not only believable but very likeable as well. The continuing adventures of John, Rachel and Dog are highly addictive and, at times, edge of the seat exciting. I can't wait for Book 6 and the emotional dilemma that looms for John. Bring it on!
