In every hospital emergency department there is a room reserved for trauma. It is a place where life and death are separated by the thinnest of margins. A place where some families celebrate the most improbable of victories while others face the most devastating of losses. A place where what matters the most in this life is revealed.
Trauma Room Two is just such a place.
In this collection of short stories, Dr. Green takes the listener inside the hidden emotional landscape of emergency medicine. Based on 15 years of experience as an ER physician, he reveals the profound moments that often occur in emergency rooms for patients, their families, and the staff that work there.

I loved this book! I was sorry to see it end. The author showed the human side of being a physician, how they feel, how they deal with the emotional side of their job. I was engaged from the first page and didn't want to put it down. I would recommend it to anyone who is fascinated by medical care and medical stories.

Any chance for real emotion is lost is the overwrought details written by the author. Chapter 1 is a prime example. The fact that I finished the book is why I gave it 3 stars but I think there were maybe 8 scenarios... the author’s life is truly something to write about; I’m the mom of 4 & I felt every moment of the story of Prom Night, but the last scenario: as beautiful as it was, was a pure work of fiction. I’m very confused by this book.

This is one of the most enjoyable and realistic medical books that I have come across. I am a physician myself and the stories are so well written and very reflective of reality. The author’s talent for description is a poignant reflection of the process of observation and situational awareness that is imperative in a good physician. The CPR/code story really hit home for me, what an incredibly powerful depiction of this very difficult real life scenario that we see all too often. Wonderful book, highly recommend - I wish there were more stories!

Out of all of the ER books that I've read, this one and his other one, People of the ER, is the most thoughtful and insightful of the bunch. It surprises me that this one has only rated 3.5 stars at this point. It's one of the few books that I freely award five stars.

I absolutely loved this book. It shows the naked reality of hospitals and the healthcare. I wish something would change for more human attitude towards elderly that doesn’t have hope for a normal life and good health, for any patient who already decided what his/hers destiny would be.

Moving, thought provoking, but not for everyone.

This is an amazing account of the affect this doctors working life has had. Not a tv episode account. This is the emotional account that the years leave you with.
People may not understand it, though those who have worked in a critical care field will understand this, you may well ask why do we do it. Medical staff ask themselves too, believe me.
This is what they don't prepare you for!
Perhaps it should be required reading, then patients would know what we don't talk about, but live with.

Not as gripping as I hoped

I admit that I expected more from this book. Yes, the authors manages to produce emotions and learning about the A&E in the US is quite fascinating. But there is occasionally too much repetition and some (but not all!) of the outcomes were too predictable.

Very well written. Very emotional in places. It is difficult to understand how doctors cope in emergency situations in a large hospital let alone a small one like this

Mainly overly floral ramblings about patients imagined lives and histories. Not much medical content at all.
I was bored at the beginning, hoped it would get better but it didn’t.
The last chapter is literally and figuratively floral, supposedly all about the memories of a dying woman.
Not at all what I expected in this type of book. Don’t bother.
