I bought this book for my 6 year old who is in grade 1. I knew purchasing this book that it would be beyond her reading level, but as a kid who is struggling to read (mostly due to little interest in learning) I wanted to find some books that sparked an interest in her and made her more excited to read and learn to read. This book did just that. I’m discovering that she has a limited interest in fiction and far prefers nonfiction books. She’s showed an interest in history and despite being for older kids I found this book was age appropriate in terms of information. It touches on traditions of ancient Egypt (mostly on death rituals), some of their beliefs and the exhumation of the his tomb. It sparked conversation which is what’s most important at this age.
While above her current reading level I can see her being able to read this herself in another year. It was well written, the story was simple enough for beginner readers but interesting enough to hold her attention.
I will continue to look for more history and non-fiction early readers as these seem to be the key to getting my child interested in reading.

From School Library Journal
Kindergarten-Grade 3 Donnelly gives simple details about how King Tutankhamen was buried and the ancient Egyptians beliefs about death. The story then skips ahead to the 1800s, when Howard Carter's frustrating five-year search for Egyptian treasure finally resulted in his discovery of the young pharoah's tomb. Although there's little new information here, these true tales of mummies and ancient treasure in an easy-reader format should prove popular. Ventura and Ceserani's In Search of Tutankhamum (Silver Burdett, 1985) provides a more detailed account of Carter's struggles, and its illustrations are superior to the standard textbook drawings found here. But its nice to see photos of the Egyptian finds included in this book, which will help readers share the excitement that Carter must have felt when his dream of finding an ancient tomb finally came true. this is a good book for someone around the age of 5 to 7. the book is in really easy to read and in large print. there are 48 pages and it was done in 1988. i think the illustrations could have been a little better. but if you have young kids they might want to read this.

Great little book, perfect for the early reader. My then-first grader loved this story of the death and burial of an ancient Pharaoh and his subsequent discovery in the 20th Century by Lord Carrington. Chock full of photos and beautiful, almost impressionistic illustrations. Large print, easy to read.
Tut's Mummy proved to be a valuable part of our Egyptian study. Oh... My daughter's older siblings (then in the fifth and sixth grades) liked the book too!

Like other "Step" books, this book is a smooth and interesting segue into historical figures and events. Of all of the Step books in my 2nd grade classroom library, this is one of my favorites. It is well-written and keeps childrens' attention as it talks about customs and religious practices that one can only imagine. It guides the reader from Tut's short reign and death to the discovery of his tomb in the early 1900's. A great and interesting read!

I am a Classical Homeschooling mom and this was a great explaination of how King Tut's mummy was discovered and why they mummified their dead. The pictures were wonderfully displayed and the illustrations were very helpful. It read like a story which kept my seven-year-old daughter's interest but taught her a great deal.

Great Read for Young English Language Learners

The book was meant for schoolchildren aged 10-12 who learn English as a foreign language. The content is great for A2 or B1 levels and the magnificent photos of the book have really caught the children's imagination.
It's a pity you don't have more titles available in this series.

My nephew is really into mummies and wants to be an archaeologist when he grows up. I am that aunt who nurtures a love of reading by buying all the littles books and educational things for holidays and birthdays. So I put together a little bag of some books on Egypt and mummies for him. It was a hit! He liked all the pictures in it especially.

My 6y/o likes anything related to mummies and this book is no exception. She has reread it several times now on her own and loves the colorful pictures in it as well. Interesting read for the little ones.
