About the authors
Melanie Reinhart was born in Zimbabwe, whose night skies inspired her vocation of astrology at an early age, in 1959. She holds a B.A. Degree in English, Music and Drama, (University of Cape Town, South Africa), and has been a professional astrologer since 1975. She is a prize-winning diploma-holder of the Faculty of Astrological Studies (FAS), of whom she is also a patron; in 2004, she was awarded the prestigious 'Charles Harvey Award', given by the Astrological Association of Great Britian in recognition of 'exceptional service to astrology;'.
Melanie and has taught for some of the world's leading astrology schools in the UK and abroad, including the FAS, the Centre for Psychological Astrology, the London School of Astrology, Astro*Synthesis (Melbourne, Australia) and many others. She has presented original research material at many conferences, and is a popular speaker at local astrology groups in the UK. She also runs her own programme of workshops and supervision for advanced students.
Feature articles were written for 'Caduceus' magazine over the last nine years, and her work has also been published in the Journal of the Astrological Association. Books published include: 'Chiron and the Healing Journey' (First edition 1989, Penguin; new edition with Starwalker Press, 2010), 'Chiron, Saturn and the Centaurs' (CPA Press 1996, p/b 2002), 'Incarnation' (CPA Press 1996). She also contributed to the anthologies 'The Mars Quartet' (CPA Press 2001), 'Modern South Africa in Search of a Soul' (Sigo Press, Boston, 1990) and 'Wilderness and the Human Spirit' (Cameron Designs, 1996). Her books have been translated into Italian, Portuguese, Serbian, German, Spanish and Dutch.
Melanie has wide experience of many spiritual teachings and therapeutic methods both physical and psychological, and she has a special interest in meditative and contemplative approaches to learning and practising astrology. Her favourite pastimes are music, gardening and cooking.
The tone which runs through all Melanie's different activities as an astrologer is the heart-beat of her dialogues with individuals, exploring and interpreting their birth charts. Her busy practice is based in London, but she also offers sessions by phone and Skype, to people all over the world.

The format is straightforward. An introductory section ("a person's reality springs outward from his or her inner landscape of thoughts, feelings, expectations and beliefs"), a quick journey through the houses, and then on to the majority of the book which is given over to a "cookbook" treatment of all the planets and signs in each house. There are countless examples backing up the interpretations e.g. writers and communicators with Sun in the third house, a famous musician and a poet with Neptune in the tenth house and so on.
At the end of the book there is a handy summary of the key concepts for each house, and a look at the different house systems astrologers use. Sasportas finishes the main text with the question, "Why don't you become what only you can become?". Why not indeed!? An excellent book.
All the planetary placements by house are described here and very well, with a deep psychological profile as well as examples and facts. I love this book because although fairly simple in its structure ( it looks after all just any other astrology cookbook on houses), the psychology and insight are excellent. It is after all the work of the great Howard Sasportas, such an influencial british astrologer. This is the man that worked for so long side by side with Liz Green and , if I remember well, co-founder of the CPA in London. A non ordinary book from an non-ordinary man, I thoughroughly recommend this book, as you will find it such a valuable tool in your astrologiucal work.

Ultimately it's overriding a lot of bigger textbooks I have simply because it gets straight to the point.
Essential.

Howard is a real authority. If you only buy six books on Astrology this must be one!
