FYI some spoilers. I also reviewed this book as I read it.
Not impressed with Nora. She’s weak and childish. He shaves her? She wouldn’t have done that before her date? Why was he so gentle and she so submissive? Nora is so annoying. She’s got no backbone. I’ve read 185 pages and am dying to stop but I paid for this series so I’ll continue a while longer. What the blip attracts Julian, a rich, cosmopolitan guy to such an immature little girl like Nora? I’m gonna gag. Page 370 and Nora is so irritating. Page 435 and I’m dying reading this boring book about sexual manipulation. Her obedience is annoying and boring. She has no spine whatsoever. How can she be tolerated? Her minor tantrums are ridiculous. I’m seriously gonna throw up. Yuck! Julian kisses her after she’s vomited 5 times? Now I’m definitely gonna spew. It finally gets somewhat interesting around page 644. She goes unconscious for hours and gets thrown from the explosion despite being much further away than Julian but Lucas, being so close to explosion, survives unharmed and drags Julian to safety? Seriously?
I’ve read many books by Anna Zaires and this one is the worst. Nora is spineless. Perhaps if there was a chapter or two from Julian’s POV, we could better understand his obsession. It only seems that Julian wants Nora for her similarity to Maria and her obedience. Her character has no substance. She has tiny acts of childish rage and then is back to her submissive, obedient, irritating self.

Kidnapped. Taken to a private island.
I never thought this could happen to me. I never imagined one chance meeting on the eve of my eighteenth birthday could change my life so completely.
Now I belong to him. To Julian. To a man who is as ruthless as he is beautiful—a man whose touch makes me burn. A man whose tenderness I find more devastating than his cruelty.
My captor is an enigma. I don’t know who he is or why he took me. There is a darkness inside him-a darkness that scares me even as it draws me in.
My name is Nora Leston, and this is my story.

i cant even describe how amazing this book was, like i read it in less then 24hrs and didnt put it down....i eventually finished it and im OBSESSED with it, like i wanted to cry when it ended. I cannot wait for the 2nd book.
it starts off with noras normal teenage life, and how she goes on a date with her crush, then everything changes when she gets abducted by the sexy blue eyed man from the club Julian, she cant seem to understand how and why he took her and what she should expect, but as time passes she grows more and more attracted and has an infatuation with her captor, she cant describe it. she should hate him and feel disturbed and violated but she dosent, the raw passion she feels for him is indescirable.
I fell for julian to as the book went on, theres no other way, to go....hes just strong, sexy and knows what he wants and is not afraid of anything.
by far probley one of the best books ive read EVER, plzzzzzz anna release the next book ASAP!
im dieing here, i need my julian fixx! ;)

To write this story from the victims perspective in such a convincing manner one could believe that the author went through such zan ordeal herself. Very captivating.

This book is advertised as a fifty shades type! I disagree, it is good in its own way but although both couples find love in a different way, this story starts with kidnapping, rape and pain that is definetly not reasoned and consentual! Although the author does manage to get the reader to like for the two characters to end up together it is a gard fought battle! But it is interesting!

I read an arc for an honest review. Dark, twisted, violence, lust, stock holm syndrome? Love/hated it. This book will take you all over the place but a good read if you can handle it.

Don't understand the reviews
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on May 6, 2017Verified Purchase
I don't understand how this book can gave so many glowing reviews. The only thing going for it is that it's quite well written. Shame about the content. I'm no prude but this book is about rape, not bdsm or erotica: rape. You can't have a character repeatedly crying at each sexual encounter, to be in pain, to dislike her protagonist intensely and it be anything else. There's no story. It's simply rape after rape and frankly this book enraged me. I don't see how anyone can find such abuse erotic. if you're expecting titillation and a horny read forget it. You'll end up squirming.
Vile book, vile subject matter.

Love and hate it. (Contains rape)

Having read many dark mafia romances, I have seen several cases of dubious consent. This is not the case in this book. He rapes her. It is 100% not consensual.
He takes her from her room which he has imprisoned her in, she tries to escape, she fights him, he takes her to bed, she shuts off and let's it happen. This happens a few more times before she is "willingly" going to bed with him and truly enjoying the pleasure. She suffers from Stockholm syndrome clearly, and becomes a willing captive for him.
Many times this book infuriated me. Yet at the same time there is something I enjoyed about it. Hearing his back story helps make his actions make more sense, however it doesn't excuse them.
But he isn't entirely heartless and I think that's where I end up liking it. He clearly cares for her, and he is capable of being gentle and not just rough and domineering.
I would like to see her be given more choices though. I want to see him concede more to her, give her free will.
Having read many dark books, I can read past the rape (just) in order to enjoy the story. If you cannot, I wouldn't recommend this book.

Glorifies rape
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on August 17, 2021Verified Purchase
This book glorifies rape and sexual slavery. The 'heroine' is a simpering wimp who worries about her potential bf more than she does her parents. The antihero is a serial rapist, plain and simple and his housekeeper aids and abets him, normalising his behaviour. I found this book very disturbing. The whole premise of the book glorifies the sex trade. The plot, such as it was, was gory and disturbing. Apparently, Zaires wrote mote books in the same vein, and 2 followups featuring said antihero and simpering wimp antiheroine. I'll pass on reading them. I thought 50 Shades was glorifed domesric violence, this book is even worse

Despite the authors name - this clearly has been written by a man!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on July 1, 2022Verified Purchase
Ridiculously rushed first few chapters, fancies a boy she knows who she goes on a date with ONCE and then is suddenly abducted by a man who's seen her TWICE, quickly has sex with her abductor, apparently orgasms every few seconds (totally unrealistic sex). The whole thing is just..... rushed and unrealistic. If I had been abducted I certainly would not be behaving like this main character does. And no woman orgasms the way this woman does, especially when apparently being raped. Disappointing read.

Just what I was looking for.

I am so glad to have found another excellent author!
I have found Anna Zaires! And I have no idea why it took me this long to read one of her books!
This one was excellent right from the first chapter.
NORA
I loved Nora. She’s a fairly innocent and kind girl. Just the normal 18-year-old doing normal 18-year-old stuff, like sneaking into a night club, lol.
Unfortunately for her, that’s where Julian spots her and although she doesn’t realise it, he’s hot on her trail from that moment on.
The second she sees him she has a crazy reaction to him. Both fear and arousal. It’s intense and sets the mood for the rest of the story.
She hates her body’s reaction to this man but she really can’t seem to control it.
JULIAN
Wow. This man is intense. There is no mistaking the power and authority this man exudes and it is hot.
He sees what he wants and he takes it. It’s as simple as that.
I was desperate to know what was going on in his mind all throughout this book.
I needed to know! But Anna Zaires is so good at this that you don’t feel like you’re missing out...even though you need more.
In the beginning, I sort of hated him but I couldn’t keep it up, lol.
He teaches Nora to love what he can give her.
FINAL THOUGHTS on TWIST ME by Anna Zaires
This is the book I’ve been searching for and I didn’t even know it.
