Disability representation in fiction, especially fiction for young people, is absolutely terrible. Disabled characters are either non-existant, the object of scorn and derision or used as two dimensional plot hooks, while offensive paragraphs are written by people who have no understanding or experience of disability.

To read an anthology of stories where the protagonists are fully alive, 3 dimensional, and tangibly real, is a wonderful thing I didn't know I needed. The stories span genres from contemporary fiction to sci-fi and fantasy and each one is a gem in its own right. This was a really wonderful book and I'd especially reccomend it to my fellow cripples- here is a text within which we can fully inhabit and shine

This is the book, and the representation, that I wish had been around when I was a chronically ill teenager. My favourite story is William Alexander's, but the whole collection provides a nice variety of genres from gritty contemporary to romance to fantasy to science fiction. Buy it for the disabled teens you know, yes, but also for the non-disabled ones, who need to hear that we're just people like them. This makes it sound very worthy, but it's fun, imaginative and left me wanting more from many of these authors.

I saw this book in an ad on my Facebook news feed, and was immediately intrigued by it. I am disabled myself since birth, although I don't really think of myself that way most of the time. I'm just who I've always been. That being said, I do of course know that I'm disabled due to both conditions since birth and those that have come later. Anyways, the stories are very diverse and unique, and while I liked some more than others, they were all very well-written. I would love to see more collections of these kind of stories, as well as more fiction in general written by disabled authors and with realistic portrayal of disabled characters. Highly recommend this book!
