5.0 out of 5 stars A collection of stories from Adrian's world that do not disappoint!
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on July 5, 2015

As noted in the description, this is a collection of stories told with the world Chris Philbrook created in the Adrian's Undead Diary series as the backdrop. Fans, both published authors and unpublished fanatics, have contributed to tell other stories from "that day" and the fallout thereafter. As a result, some stories may not be as well written as you are used to, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good story anyway. Chris has even brought a new character into the fold that I have a feeling we may see more of he and his group in the future.

To be clear, these stories are not about Adrian or his group directly. He certainly gets his share of honorable mentions and some of the survivors are headed toward Bastion but if you are expecting more of Adrian or Abby's writings, you're going to have to wait until the next AUD book arrives. Leaving a less than favorable review because you didn't understand this fact is not cool.

While there isn't a bad story in the collection, some are out-frickin-standing and will resonate long after you finish them. Some of my favorites were, "In the Arms of the Dead", "Amy's Daycare" and "Thirty Thousand Feet". Add zombies to those titles and you at have a vague idea of where these are headed. Everywhere from emotional roller coasters to dark, sick and twisted genius.

I very much enjoyed reading this collection and think you will too. Chris never fails to disappoint, especially when Adrian is involved. You don't necessarily need to be familial with Adrian and his story to understand the stories contained here, but it doesn't hurt. If haven't read AUD, you're really missing out so pick that up too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Junkie's Need Fulfilled...

I'll admit it: I AM A JUNKIE. I am a junkie of the Adrian's Undead Diary zombiverse.

How so?
I lost productivity at work when I 1st discovered AUD and ripped through what had been posted.
I lost sleep reading Midnight.
I felt like I lost a family member reading The Failed Coward.
I felt lost when I finished Cassie.
I lost my mind that some of the AUD Fan Fiction stories on the site were never finished, much like I felt the story wasn't...

Unhappy Endings is a fresh needle in the hot spoon of AUD. This book expands on the short stories that I enjoyed on the site, unveils some new fan fiction from people that should be writing more, and hints at the transition to a rebirth of the AUD story.

A hat tip to some of my favorites stories by the contributing authors: The Only Thing That Matters, Thirty Thousand Feet, Amy's Daycare, Storm Crow 602, No F**ks on Timmy

I'm looking forward to the next book before I need methadone...

5.0 out of 5 stars More stories set in the AUD world? Yes please!

Unhappy Endings is a great little anthology set in the world of Adrian's Undead Diary. June 23, 2010 is a date well known to AUD fans as the day the world went to Hell. Giving us Eddie's story in its entirety (finally!!) and using fan fiction centered around "that day", Chris Philbrook has proven once again Adrian fans never say die! Written from so many different viewpoints and places you'll be hard pressed to find a story that doesn't have you looking over your shoulder for those pesky silent zombies! While these stories go along with Adrian's Undead Diary, you don't have to read AUD first to be able to follow along. If you haven't had the pleasure of discovering Adrian's Undead Diary along with the rest of us, do yourself (and Chris!) a solid and go pick up the first book in the series, Dark Recollections. I promise you won't be sorry!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping read, especially for fans of the series!

Wow! I loved this collection of short stories all set in the world of Adrian Ring, from The Undead Diary series. Every story was gripping - some very disturbing, most sad in many ways, some quite inspiring ... I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Zombie fiction, AUD, or short story collections! The only thing I'd say is start at the beginning folks - you will get so much more out of this book if you've read the rest of the Adrian's Undead Diary series. The characters are brilliantly written, the setting of the world being already so real to those of us who've read the AUD series. All in all, this is a collection of brilliantly written stories by some fantastic authors, all of whom have totally embraced the theme! Loved it and really hope there will be a second book.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Stories from the world of Adrian's Undead Diary

I just changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars. The more I thought about the concept and how Philbrook put it together, the more I loved it.

I suppose these stories all started as fanfic. But this is no ordinary fanfic. It's elevated. The writing is uneven at times, to paraphrase Philbrook, some have great stories to tell, and others are great storytellers. Some are both.

The best, in my opinion, take an element or scene from AUD and "turn the camera around" or reverse the point of viewโ€ฆrevealing just who that old lady in the supermarket can aisle is, for example.

I'm glad that Philbrook has declared this volume of events canon. I look forward to re-reading the entire series, probably starting in January 2016.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zombie Soup For The Soul

This is one of my absolute favorite authors. His stories are a true adventure full of enjoyment. His AUD series is a Zombie tour de force. Unhappy Endings is the collaboration of Stories written by Chis and authors/fans of AUD. It provides kaleidoscopic views of the AUD world with enough diversity and emotion that you might find yourself crying, laughing, and utterly on your heels with a knife in your gut slowly twisting! If your looking for a book in which you can digest slowly one story at a time, then let it not be in vein that I implore you to embark on this Apocalyptic rollercoaster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great add on to AUD

I like the way some of the zombie stories had a conclusion. I found one author I want to read more of and am now following him on Amazon. One story was a bit confusing and seemed , I don't know, contrived. Maybe it was trying too hard to fit in to AUD. Other than that I would definitely read it again and was very happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars From, and for, fans of AUD
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on June 17, 2015

Short and sweet: an excellent collection of stories firmly planted in the AUD universe, some by the original author Chris Philbrook, others contributed by fellow fans of the series. Some stand alone, others integrate themselves into the story of Adrian, but are told from different characters viewpoints. Required reading for Adrian fans? Absolutely. After reading this, I've decided to re-read the entire series again, to see if I can pick up on things I missed! On a side note... that poor dog. Amazingly moving story...

Helped quench my thirst for new AUD material...was quite impressed with the other authors writings, and as always the stories written by Chris himself were excellent as always...the fan-written stories had a very similar voice as chris's work, and did a great job filling in some backstory on many of the side characters in AUD...was very impressed and cant wait until we get more material from the AUD world
