To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.

3.0 out of 5 starsCoffee table book
Reviewed in Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ on August 7, 2022
I like the simplicity and clear nature of the writing. It does a good job of approaching the audience and dispelling thoughts and behaviours which undermine learning and memory performance. This said, its taken half the book in which to trod through, and thus far, from an academic standpoint, has taught me nothing I haven't already learned. If you are a novice, I would recommend this book. If you're looking for a plethora of nuanced techniques...perhaps there are better sources.

3.0 out of 5 stars This book is an ad for other books

The book is informative on the subject but I returned it due to the ridiculous amount of plugs for other books and also religion.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very frustrating (and not in a good way)

I usually don't rate books (and I should more for books I like), and I don't want to be negative, but I had to rate it just because of how frustrating I found the book (especially considering the price).

I'm not overexaggerating when I say it feels like literally over half the book is filler. He keeps quoting the same people, leaves a bunch of spaces and extra pages to stretch the count, and once even rewrote the same paragraph.

This is 20 pages of content stretched to 160, and I put 160 pages in many quotes. He keeps repeating the same things in different ways, keeps making general statements and again so very clearly tries to stretch the book. There is zero depth to it.

I only write this to warn others of the same possible frustrations. I really think the author could have put a lot more thought and added more layers to this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn’t help, a few parlor tricks!

This book is filled with a bunch of really old systems that you can find for free online. Certainly not a quick fix, if you can memorize all the methods in this book, you already have a great memory and don’t need this book! If you like being called lazy for not wanting to remember a deck of playing cards, have at it.

This book didn't work for me. It would use things like the parts of a car to help relate to remembering things. For some people, this might work (especially if you are a car buff which I'm not) but overall not for me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it

I found this book to be fairly weak. Lots of schlocky type explanations of recycled ideas. Can’t say I would recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Filled with fillers and generalities that were cool in 1980

Currently at 25% of the book and there are no actual techniques to improve memory. The ''author'' just rambles generalities: ''heyy, you need to concentrate!! heyy you have to stop worrying!!'' -- Sure thing Sherlock. Let me press a button.

Funny thing is, author says he wanted his book to go straight to the point with the actual techniques but 1/4 of the book is currently completely useless.

The point of this book is to create images that make sense to the reader, so that the material being learned is more memorable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing useful for long term memory
Reviewed in Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ on January 23, 2021
Fells like these are for techniques for short term memory in case you are preparing for an immediate test/ exam. Not very useful for long term memory. Definitely not worth the price.
