From the manufacturer
A century of passion in every Van Houtte cup
In 1919, Albert-Louis Van Houtte opened his first grocery store in Montreal. Soon after, he dedicated his time exclusively to the art of crafting coffee. Today, Van Houtte continues to uphold Old World roasting traditions, providing Canadians with rich, elegant, European-inspired coffee.
Van Houtte is more than a name, it’s an institution.
Albert-Louis Van Houtte, a French immigrant, opens his first grocery store in Montreal and soon, concentrates on his one true passion: coffee.
The European coffee taste Albert-Louis loved so much back home is impossible to find. So he buys a roaster and starts roasting his own coffee at the back of his shop. This marks the beginnings of the House Blend.
Albert-Louis passes away, and his three children take over the family business. They move the family shop to larger premises in the heart of downtown Montreal
Maison A.L. Van Houtte expands and begins distributing coffees in supermarkets, restaurants, and other public places, and becomes the most sold premium coffee brand in Canada and the biggest coffee supplier in North America.
Taste Every Nuance
Depending on origin, roast and blend, our coffees can be anything from acidic to spicy, smooth to bold, or bitter to sweet. Discover the nuance of every one of those flavours and aromas by experiencing Van Houtte coffee today.

I prefer a light roasted coffee and this variety is just perfect. These roasted coffee beans do not make my cup of coffee taste overly bitter. The company makes such an extensive variety of flavours. But this one is my go-to.
The package is easy to open and the grounds are perfect for use in a French press. I make one cup of coffee a day and go through a 340g package in about 2 1/2 weeks. I like to store my bag in the fridge to keep the beans fresh.
Van Houtte has been is a trusted and well-known coffee brand in Montreal, my home town, for many decades. They have always given us quality. I remember going to Van Houtte shop to buy freshly ground Columbian coffee 30 year ago. The quality has not changed. This one is a bit more pricier but well worth it when you want to spoil yourself or spoil your guests. They will be delighted and impressed!
It's mellow with the perfect infusion of butterscotch without all the extra calories and price you get from barrista big chain brands...we all know which ones. It smells wonderful, tastes like a gently-roasted smooth blend and has no weird smells like some reveiwers implied. It is dessert in a cup.
So happy I was feeling lazy that day! I'll keep this on hand from now on cause it's earned it's place in my kitchen!☕
