I have worked in and with many organizations both as a leader of HR (People Development now) and as a consultant. Time and again, you see how we all can be the cause of drama - often unintentionally. It is this drama that really robs us of our joy in our work. I would love to say that after all these years I am drama free - yet as a human being, it is simply not realistic to believe we will not face it in our work and lives. The difference for me today is that I am very aware of what is happening and when I make a choice that isn't so helpful to my work (or life), I can coach myself out of the situation much better now.
Why this matters to workplaces - in my profession - and in companies all over the world, we are working to create thriving workplace cultures. Cultures where people can bring their whole self to work, places where we can be creative and innovative and feel heard. The cost of drama to the bottom line is measurable. If you want to do something strategic for your company - invest in 3VQ. It is the hard work of culture transformation that is made that much easier when you have 3VQ with you for the journey. Once you know these things, you can't not know them - and I hope your desire to make your workplace somewhere special is strengthened by this work.

While no one consciously chooses drama or toxicity, almost everyone can relate to experiencing it in their lives. David gently and firmly reminds us that we are always contributing to what we experience, and gives us a way to change our experience by asking the right questions that empower. His questions all have the word “you” in them – meaning that the power to change experience is ours to activate. He shows us how to get on-track by asking the right questions rather than being dis-tracted by the wrong conclusions (about ourselves and each other).
I’m grateful to David for discovering and articulating the principles and questions in 3 Vital Questions. It’s a great read and resource.
