Meira Amon is the most reserved of the phoenixes, finding computers easier to deal with than people and their messy emotions. But she wants revenge against the Rotting King Pytheios for the murder of her parents just as much as her sisters. Offering herself as a queen for their ally, dragon shifter King Gorgon of the Black Clan, only makes sense.
Just one problem…
Samael Veles worked his lowborn ass off to become the fiercest warrior of the Black Clan. He has pledged his life to protect his king at all costs. Yet somehow, in the middle of war, he took one look at a woman in a reflection and gave up his heart. When that woman turns out to be the phoenix promised to mate his king and help bring peace to their kind, he has no choice but to accept it.
Until her fire unexpectedly destroys the king after they’ve wed. Now Samael must choose between his loyalty to his clan and protecting the queen who might be his mate from his people’s wrath, one of which will unlock a destiny no one could have ever imagined…

About the author

Bestselling and award-winning author, Abigail Owen, writes adult paranormal romance & upper YA fantasy romance. She loves plots that move hot and fast, feisty heroines with sass, heroes with heart, a dash of snark, and oodles of HEAs! Other titles include wife, mother, Star Wars geek, ex-competitive skydiver, spreadsheet lover, eMBA, organizational guru, Texan, Aggie, and chocoholic.
Abigail attempted to find a practical career related to her favorite pastime by earning a degree in English Rhetoric (Technical Writing) and an MBA. However, she swiftly discovered that writing without imagination is not nearly as fun as writing with it.
Abigail currently resides in Austin, Texas, with her own swoon-worthy hero, their angelic teenagers, and two adorable fur babies.

I felt like the plot was a bit all over the place with a lot of back and forth and it didn't grip me enough.
I liked the main characters but I felt like they needed to show more emotion and more connection (besides the whole "I'm attracted to you because we're fated")
There was just something missing and the story lacked the necessary emotion.

I was so looking forward to reading about these two, as in book 2 the epilogue left me wanting more.
It was so fun to read them because it is so obvious that those two belong together, but their journey for sure was not the easiest. On the one hand Meira, a computer nerd who does not believe in fates and destiny but rather logical choices and then you have Sam, the "I-have-a-Chinese-wall-around-my-heart" dragon, who fights his feelings, his needs, his destiny.
But, if it wasn't for the amazing author, I guess those two would still be fighting their destinies, but Abigail showed once again how much talend she has, how much she captivates the readers into the world of dragon shifters, romance, love and brings joy - to her main characters but also to me or the readers ;)
The story is about to reach its high - it is the second last book. We get to understand more from the enemies, we learn more about the world of dragons, but, as in the previous books, the main focus was on the main couple, which I again loved so much.
The steamy scenes were steamy, but a few - please do we get more in book 4? :D Other than that just perfect sequel to the series. Can't wait for Angelika ...

The Warrior King is the third book in the Inferno Rising series and tells the story of Meira and Samael.
It’s been a while since I read The Blood King, the previous book in the Inferno Rising series but it wasn’t hard to pick up the story again. Once I read a few chapters I was back into the Inferno Rising world and I enjoyed every bit of it! I really liked getting to know Meira and Samael, and I loved reading about Kasia, Brand, Skylar and Ladon again!
Meira and Samael are interesting characters. I loved that they tried to deny their feelings and tried to do the right thing, but it’s obvious that Meira and Samael are made for each other. I really liked seeing them grow towards each other and really fall in love with each other. I loved reading in both POV, and I think they’re really cute together.
I really love the overall story line in the Inferno Rising series. It makes you want to read all the books and discover what’s going to happen to the phoenixes and their mates. The Warrior King was another amazing book by Abigail Owen, and I think she’s a talented Paranormal Romance author. I’m really excited for the next book in the series, we’re finally getting Angelique’s story!
