great book has nothing to do with potty training...more about donuts and friendship...and what happens when you fall asleep playing with your pet tropical gold fish...a family classic that allows for some good character voices
A lady who was presenting new children's literature read this book aloud to a group of teachers at a professional development seminar, and had us all crying we were laughing so hard. My face hurt from laughing so much, and I ordered a copy for my class right away. This is one of those gems that's as much fun for the adult to read as it is for the child.
Kids loved this book so if you just want your kids to laugh, read it at the library for sure! The reason I've only given it 3 stars is because it's an expensive picture book that really missed the opportunity to be a great book. I thought it was creative and funny and rang so true with kids, but it ends very abruptly exactly when it's trying to resolve the issue and make the point/teach a lesson. I don't understand why the author let alone the editor would have ended this book they way they did. It ends because, well, there is a last page, but even the kids were expecting more and flipped the page to find, well, that was it. I've never said this before, but I highly recommend the author/editor/publisher redo the ending of this book and republish it. In another 3 or 4 pages, it could wrap up with some really valuable lessons about compassion, misunderstandings, misperceptions, telling the truth, listening to others. On the upside, the ending left a lot for parents and their kids to discuss. That said, many kids reading this book are starting to read on their own and they simply won't get all take-aways that could have been handled so uniquely and hilariously by this book. It's so abrupt, they'll just be missed unless an adult is there to fill in the blanks. Too bad! At this point, I would not buy this book again - read it at the library for a good laugh.
This book is so fun to read to kids. I think it sets a good message also because the friends in the story don't try to embarrass him because of his accident. The illustrations are so fun and my kids loved the little squirrel character with his big eyes! A great story and I bought an extra copy for my child's teacher - I know she will love reading this one!
(Kindle version) - - This is a very well illustrated fun short story that can help parents ease into a discussion of an important topic. I really loved the illustrations and characters. I only wish it was a bit longer :) For some reason many children's books follow the same boring style. Not this one. This is fun for the parent to read as well. I bought the kindle to review before getting a hard copy as a gift for a friend with a little one. Please note you might get a kindle discount with your order (so check) also the illustrations take a few seconds to load once you open the book in your reader (I used cloud reader) so do not panic!
I read this book at our library story time and it made me laugh so much I had to buy it. I think we can all recognise the behaviour of the poor bear trying to blame everyone and everything for his wet trousers. A little lesson in there somewhere. Parents will enjoy reading it as much as the children will
