Purchase options and add-ons
Why We Fly the Rainbow presents the rainbow Pride flag, the people it represents and why we fly it, in a way that's easy for young readers to follow. The book is narrated by two cheerful jellybeans, as they discuss the LGBTQ+ initials, the various iterations of the pride flag and what it means to be a good friend. Through a casual conversation between these happy candies, we learn about acceptance, diversity and the concept of pride. The bright, colourful illustrations are eye-catching for kids and add another layer to the story, as all of the jellybeans, in different sizes, shapes and colours, with different interests and abilities, are ultimately, the same. This is the third book from Miss Minty Beets.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.

My fiancé and I bought this book to start our collection of same sex/LGBTQ+/family books to read to our future children and it is adorable! The wording would be for a little bit older children but it teaches and shows the need for acceptance!

A quick google search would have yielded quick results for this author that showed the term ‘transsexual’ has been rejected by the transgender community. Bisexuality defined is “attracted to more than one gender” which is also incorrectly construed in the book. These are just a couple of examples. Using outdated, offensive and old misinformed definitions and words throughout this book is harmful to the community that it is supposed to be supporting. I wouldn’t recommend this one at all. Although I think it’s important to have LGBTQIA2S+ books for younger age groups this one misses the mark massively.

This is a great resource for adults to use to teach young people about the meaning of the rainbow flag and many of the different identities it represents

A brilliantly written, beautifully illustrated, age appropriate answer for a whole host of questions. My family absolutely adores it. Miss Beets really knocked it out of the park with this one!
