I am absolutely loving this series! Each of the 3 books so far in the series has had its own tone, from hilarious, to serious & then this one, which was tense & some. But still with the clever humour to be found that I love in Helen Harper’s books.
The cast of this series are brilliant. They are all well rounded characters, with strong personalities and important parts to play. I love that about these books. And they are all so entertaining in their differences.
My favorite is, without question, Pumpkin. He’s the smartest of the lot of them! And he could give lessons in attitude…
Who’d have thunk a series about faery godmothers could be one of Harper’s darker series. While there is a hopeful side plot of romance, humor from Saffron’s sidekicks Vincent and Pumpkin the dog and some aspects of the lingering plot from previous books, the continuation of other details Carrie Dover and new developments take a turn. Even the romance hits a snag. I still enjoy the realism that not every magical wish is rainbows and bunnies, with mysterious and criminal folk among Saffron’s clients. I must admit that the first half of the book was a bit of a slog for me, but it really picked up at the end and now I eagerly await book 4. Additionally, while Harper always writes characters with quick wit and light on the details to keep from slowing the story (the opposite of lord of the rings, which I appreciate), I have yet to really get a grip on Saffron; she was missing some reactions I’d expect to certain events, but I think based on the twist, there’s more to learn about her in the next installment.
Just when Saffron thought she had cleaned up another mess and could get back on track being the best faery Godmother, things go to hell again. Ethan is back forcing Saffron to clean up another mess she made but she is in no mood to be forced to do anything and might have overreacted slightly. She has to move in with Jasper for a few days. Additionally, she gets a really difficult client again and has an extremely difficult time figuring out what his wish is. Then there is the Director, who seems to have lost her mind and proves that she might just be the biggest problem yet. Can Saffron figure all this out and appease everyone while keeping her job in the end. Just what is so terrible in Jasper's past and how does it figure in? Very well written and engrossing but many twists and turns that you don't necessarily foresee. I love the series and intend to finish it but, I'm not really excited about the final plot twists.
As You Wish by Helen Harper a five-star read you can wish upon. This is number three in the How to be the best damn faery godmother in the world (or die trying) series and they read best in order as they follow on and tell the whole story. This one may be my favourite of the series as not only do we read about the best damn faery godmother in the world, but we also get to hear more about her sidekicks as well. This is so much fun, and the drama in this one was sublime, the intrigue and plot twists just kept me hooked. It was like watching the story unfold before your eyes, and you don’t see it coming. I must say Devils advocate you still have my heart, no matter what you do.
I was a bit miffed about the ending of this story, because I was already caught up in how much this series reminded me of the Lazy Witch meets Highland Magic with all the behind the scenes political machinations and the need to maintain the status quo while recognizing everyone’s potential for greatness, I just didn’t expect Saffron to go down this path. After careful thought, this opens up loads of possibilities for how the final book may play out. I did enjoy this thoroughly and found myself laughing aloud at the best damn sidekicks antics
Entertaining urban fantasy series. A world in which there really are Fairy godmothers. They go out and grant wishes of people. But there is something amiss in the ferry godmother‘s office. Follow along as our main character saffron is thrust into a job she’s always wanted but has to fight for it every turn. There are people out to get her and make her look bad. A great cast of characters in an entertaining storyline. Find out who is at the root of all the evil going on. And entertaining read from beginning to end check it out
Saffron's drive and ambition may come back to bite her. The situation with the trolls and her client load may be more than even she can handle. Her client is working in a shady auto shop. The trolls keep interrupting her daily life. She's also taking care of Pumpkin, Rose's dog and he acting out. But she is anprofessional and must carry on with a stiff upper lip and doing her very best.
