5.0 out of 5 starsIt's a Wonderfully made movie, filled with real emotion, passion, and care.
Reviewed in Canada on January 27, 2021
Unfortunately, Prime Video refused to serve us the actual quality we paid for, that we could utilise, but that's not the movies fault, I worked around it.

I'm a bit of a history nut, so seeing the first movie, and her reaction to the world and the good, was astounding. the fact that they found a way of doing this again in a new generation, without it feeling forced, was beyond awesome. having that chemistry back, made Chris Pine feel like a stand in for all those we lost in the great wars experience the world that they fought for but never could see, despite all the new evils. The movie was very emotional for me.

I know not everyone can afford to rent the movie with the pandemic, but as soon as its over, I hope that everyone can have a chance to enjoy this movie, as it brought me hope for our future, and genuine happiness that such beauty existed in 2020. It was "wonderful" to travel back to 1984 and to see the immersion breaking things, but they did an amazing job recreating the world and the feel.

Highest recommended film to date.

2.0 out of 5 starsFalse advertising - There is not a digital copy included.
Reviewed in Canada on July 3, 2018
The movie itself is pretty good, particularly the story-line in the first half. Things get a bit hokey in the second half, but it's still watchable.
Very good casting.
The CGI of Wonder Woman's fights leaves something to be desired. Certainly not up to today's standards.

My main complaint though, is you don't receive a Digital Copy that is stated in the product description. Instead, you get the right to stream the movie via WB's app. This isn't the same as 'having' a digital copy. I can't stream/watch it while in an area without a WIFI connection (on a flight, camping, etc. where I am most likely to watch a digital copy). And, if I stream it thru my mobile provider, it chews thru my monthly data plan. This will be my last WB/DC purchase due to this. If I need to stream the digital content, I'll just wait for it to be available thru Netflix, Prime, etc.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth $30. But it was date night.

It wasn't a 'bad' movie like all the reviewers are saying, it was just...unremarkable. The best part was the Lynda Carter cameo scene. Yeah I'm old enough to have watched the original Wonder Woman tv series back in the day. Gal Gadot is beautiful and she's a decent actor, but the story is unremarkable, the villains are TERRIBLY written, the plot is only enough to keep your attention until you need to check your email or the latest meme on your gamer Discord channel.
I didn't have as high of hopes for this movie as I did for the first, but still totally disappointing and NOT WORTH $30. I want my money back for sure, I should have sailed the high seas for it, yarrrrrrrr.

2.0 out of 5 stars A disappointing film due to unclear writing objectives

Writers. As in the titles for Deadpool, they are the real heroes in story telling.

Just an absolute shame about what happened to them in this film. I'm assuming that tragedy befell them, and that's why the storytelling for this movie was lackluster and actually boring. Despite having some thematic and character elements that were interesting in themselves, and which held great potential, these elements were lost due to either a lack of focus in the script, an overly long runtime (two hours and thirty minutes), or were just overshadowed and confused by other story elements that were given more focus.

From a thematic perspective, the film explores the empowerment of women in the context of a culture that sidelines their worthiness and contributions, while also exploring the corrupting influence of power and wealth. We get it: People are awful, but dammit they deserve another shot! The approach to both of these themes is confused and lacks focus, as the film tries to alternate between scenes where they are blasted into the viewer's eyes using characters/villains that reflect the flawed nature and motivation behind both abstract concepts. As is the wont of villains as a group, the go about the business of conquering and destroying the world, because...reasons?

Obviously, if you receive great power the first thing you must do is abuse that power and lose your humanity in the process, something which even the titular heroine falls prey to, and thereby redeeming herself and showing her own fallibility. A touching and heartfelt story that runs a good chunk of the screen time, but has a feeling of being forced and a little bit whiny. Close to 70 years passed between the story of the first film and the sequel, and in that time we're supposed to believe that an empowered and enlightened woman who is successfully finding her way in the world was unable to get over a guy she knew for maybe less than a week? Unlikely. More appropriately, it is a juvenile trope that gives the impression that this is a high school level romance.

As for the ongoing theme of female empowerment, maybe some general consideration should be given to Wonder Woman's costume. The character was created by DC comics back in 1941 and pretty much modeled after a pinup girl. If the same company (DC) can kill Superman, change his costume, bring him back to life, turn him into a cyborg, etc, then surely they can find the moxie to develop a female character's costume that's not based off of a bustier and a mini-skirt.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun but over-rated

I loved the first Wonder Woman movie. This one, however, seemed rather cumbersome and awkward. The biggest problem is the way they brought back Chris Pine / Steve Trevor was, frankly, wrong. It was a poor plot device that takes away from the whole movie and feels wrong on every level. As for Gal Gadot/Wonder Woman, she truly embodies the character and her chemistry with Pine is still strong but kind of wasted on this otherwise decent movie.
Finally, the ending seemed rather trite, stupid and almost predictable. It kind of makes a mockery of everything that went on before, much like the way the Dallas tv series brought back Bobby Ewing and basically destroyed the previous season. I would like to think there are more creative minds in Hollywood than this but they were not on this movie.
Don't get me wrong, it is watchable. But the 'wonder' in Wonder Woman is clearly missing for me. Hopefully, with better writers, Warner Brothers can turn this franchise around in the 3rd movie and bring back the magic of the first.

Honestly Speaking
1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible. Terrible. Terrible.

SPOILERS: Very let down. Confused on why a chunk of Wonder woman's movies are about her man. I was excited because he died in the first one so this one would focus on her right? Wrong. In the obsession with white male leads they BROUGHT HIM BACK TO LIFE TO TAKE UP SPACE???? They just couldn't do without him? We barely see her armour in a battle that makes no sense and she only learns to fly because a man told her she could. The list goes on. Why can't we see Diana with Amazonian women for more than a few moments. Villain is aimlessly wandering. Diana stops him in a moment that seems so random. When they undid the wishes wouldn't everything be like new like it never happened? Mr. Pascale, not sure what happened for you with this role but he was cartoonish like a Power Rangers villain. Sigh. Maybe next time.

Remember Superman 3? Remember all the out of place slapstick?

Think that - only not nearly as fun. I've never seen a movie series go from so good to so bad so quickly.

Also, WW uses a mans body who isn't aware of it for sexual gratification. Now, needless to say, if a man had done this to a womans body in a mainstream movie - im sure people would be up in arms... Just warning parents ahead of time.

Hi, I did enjoy the movie but it felt short of my expectations. I think the plot could have been a bit more. There are so many questions that left me. Where is her sword and shield? How does she turn into her hero outfits, especially being at the party. I really did not understand the artifact.

I like having "Steve" back because he makes things really exciting. The cheetah woman, not sure if she was necessary. What is the "wing costume" made from? Also, that Wonder Woman is left injured.

I like it but not like the first one. I hope the third one does better. Really would like to see her back at "her real home" at that island.

Either way, questions yes, but still very entertaining.

The 1st wonder woman was better than this one. The plot was a mess just like what was happening in the world of the film. Seems like it was directed by a toddler.

I give it a 3 star just because its Gal Gadot and she was able to carry this messy film. Chris Pine, was also great in my opinion so additional 1 star for a total of 4.
But I have to substract 1 star because Pedro Pascal is not a villain type of actor. For the love of star wars and narcos!!! He is the MANDALORIAN and Javier Peña!

For people wondering if $30 bucks was worth it.

I say "Yes!" if you're a Gal Gadot fan.

And a big and long "NOOOOOOO!!!!!" if you're expecting a great DC movie. Just wait till its free.

I went in with really low expectations, but somehow this movie didn't even meet those.
I get it: period peices are tough. Even when hiring quality acting chops, like that of Gadot or Wiig, you can't hide the amount of suck this movie has.
There's a lot of issues, but i have to set some realistic expectations for my thumbs, so I'll cover (only) 5:
(SPOILER ALERT! [Duh.])

1. The CGI was impossible to ignore. I mean, we all laugh at Dwayne Johnson in The Scorpion King, but nearly 20 years later, how do we justify cringeworthy big-budget movies like this? How'd they pitch it? "For the CGI, I really feel inspired by last year's Cats movie. Can we do that, but with less dancing and more invisible jets? Thanks."
The animation of WW running at inhuman speed could have passed in the 1990 tv version of The Flash. Maybe.

2. That stupid jet scene.
Chris Pine flew prop planes in WWI. Yet in this movie, he easily jumps into a modern military jet and flies it with ease.
Apparently it's modeled after a Panavia Tornado - a jet with a range of about 4,200kms - that he flies it over 9,300km from DC to Cairo.
They also fly it at about 40kph through some fireworks, which is the only callback to the blatantly ripped-off Thor Ragnarok themed colours found all over the WW1984 posters, then have a deep an meaningful talk IN COMPLETE SILENCE!
Even a luxury passenger jet could achieve the level of serenity this magical jet provided. Good thing this stupid jet somehow had side-by-side seats for them to enjoy it.

3. Pedro Pascal carried the character with some believability for a short while, but as he went more insane, so did the plot.
It peaked when he was screaming into an nonsensical beam of light that was supposed to be a tv signal..? At this point, if you can somehow keep watching, WW goes into a long monologue about being true to yourself.. or was it about being happy with your life? I don't know. My brain Right-clicked and deleted it immediately in self defense.
Either way, she talks for a while, and you'll be wishing she didn't... until the camera goes back to Pedro making painful faces that should only be made behind his Mandalorian helmet.

4. Continuity.
Almost every movie has continuity errors, but sometimes it's like they just give up.
Things moving from hand to hand between shots. Clothing changing. At one point WW lost her lasso, but then stands up and it's on her belt. Heck, it's set in 1984, and the arcade has a number of games that came out years later.
You can even see a flat screen tv on the wall as Chris Pine goes down an escalator.

5. Lynda Carter's cameo was as much needed as it was poorly done.
We all want it, sure, but the script sold her off like a cheap gimmick. Might as well have her say, "It's me! I'm the original Wonder Woman! Look at me grace my fans with my presence!"
From Lou Ferrigno to Stan Lee, subtlety and tips of the hat can go a long way in super hero movies. Lynda is brilliant, but they didn't make it seem organic at all.

Bonus:
She can fly now.. which would make sense if she could fly in the 2 Justice appearances. Unless the flying scene took place after Justice League? Who knows?

Either way, consider watching Halle Berry's Catwoman. At least that mess was shorter.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wonder Woman deserved better

I saw somewhere that the theme of this movie should have been a season of a tv show but it was not for a blockbuster movie. I felt like I was waiting for the good part to start which it does not happen until the very end. The whole plot of the movie is absurd, in part because it is poorly explained. Bringing back her love interest from the dead also negated a lot of what made the first Wonder Woman such a great movie. It was also a very poorly explained. The only good thing that I can say about this movie is that the casting of Kirstin Wiig and Pedro Pascal was just great.
