First off, I love this series - the story, the art, the writing, the alternate-reality characters, etc.. I also love that the entire story is here in this massive book from start to finish including the issues that preempted the Age of Apocalypse crossover.
But my issue is with this particular omnibus in comparison to the first edition or the original comics - it isn't as vibrant and the colours are subdued. I have the original comics and the artwork jumps out of the pages with a colourful brightness but in this printing they're dulled. I also compared it with a friend's copy who has the first edition of this omnibus and his is closer to the original comics, nice and bright, the colours pop. You can find some comparisons of these editions on YouTube.
I'm really disappointed with this edition but unfortunately the only way you could get the first edition is second hand.
For huge fans of this series I would suggest sticking with the original comics unless this was on sale.

Pros:
-Build quality
-Overall Story
Cons:
-Some stories are better than others including artwork
Overall this is a great reprint of a popular story arc. Some of the stories and artwork are not my taste, but the weapon x and astonishing X-Men are fantastic. Really enjoyed the read. Highly recommend.

Book is perfect and all good. Except that the cover came a bit damaged. This feels like a trend if you read other reviews.

One of Marvel's greatest events

I received a replacement as the original was full of printing errors and the second copy wasn't much better, but the story is great, the action is fast-paced and the characters are interesting. You can even skip over the boring Jeph Loeb issues and not miss much. It would be nice if it included the two issues of X-Men Chronicles (which are referenced in the collection and provide important backstory) and X-Universe #1-2, another contemporary series that ties in to the main story. Both appear to be in the companion edition, which is full of much later produced material that is inferior to the original classic. All in all, this event is one that belongs on every X-fan's shelf.
