A beautiful muse (Olivia Newton John, Grease) is sent from up above to inspire a struggling artist (Gene Kelly, Singin’ In the Rain) and help motivate him to open a roller-disco in this dazzling musical which includes hit songs such as "Magic," "I'm Alive," "All Over the World," "Suddenly," and the title song "Xanadu."

All in all an excellent movie and I am so glad it's now on Blu-ray release.
P.S.: This is my second message. The first one was written in French, which you may not understood. I hope this time I will get a respond.
Came out in 1980 and kinda one of those what I call 'transitional' decade films. I always thought it was underrated. Gene Kelly's last movie amd GREAT pairing with Olivia Newton John.
The remastering on bluray is STUNNING, you get completely wrapped up in the movie. The animation sequence 'Don't walk away' is gorgeously restored.
The soundtrack sounds fantastic. Always loved ELO.
Hats off to Universal in one of the best 80's movies restorations. If other movies such as 'Can't Stop the Music' and SGT Pepper's Lone;y Hearts Club Band with the BeeGee's faired so well on a bluray remaster, one could only hope for a bluray reissue of these.
For those that haven't seen it, grab a bluray copy of this treasure from 1980
The film is about a frustrated artist named Sonny who dreams of fame beyond his dead-end job. He hates painting large, display-versions of record albums. Then he meets and falls in love with a mysterious girl named Kira, who was really Terpsichore: The muse of dance, a daughter of Zeus & Mnemosyne - The goddess of memory...I studied World Mythology. I love a really good musical, they've great songs in them. My favorite musical scenes are "Dancin'" a wonderful blend of the 40s and 80s. And "Don't Walk Away" an animated sequence by none other than Don Bluth.I had listened to that song (Don't Walk Away) I cried...Really! I cried! I haven't cried since like...months ago or so. Overall it's an awesome musical to enjoy.

None of this matters. Some great songs, some great dance sequences, and some 'interesting' outfits.
There are far worse films (and other ways) to spend 96 minutes, so if you're tempted give it a go, you may be pleasantly surprised - like I was. Gene Kelly still has it, plus ONJ matches him for dancing and beats him for singing. Yup, it may not be 'cool' (whatever that is) but it's entertaining and fun, and that's way better.
Xanadu the song always sounds great so I got this DVD after I bought
the soundtrack album.
I had been researching about angels for weeks after my mum passed
away in August 2014,
and the muses awakening at the beginning of the film to ELO's " I'm Alive "
just looks and feels so angelic.
The story of the film is very heart warming as Sonny (Michael Beck)
teams up with Danny (Gene Kelly)my [ Mum's favourite actor ]
to create a union of past, present and future at a revamped derelict building
They both find they have so much in common, but it takes some prompting
from Kira (Olivia Newton-John) to get them to unite and fulfill their dreams.
Quite a lot of different fashion styles and music tracks are crammed into the
96 min of the film but it makes it so enjoyable.
Pictures of people on wall come to life (I'm Alive) or real life people turn into
Disney like animation (Don't Walk Away) - inspiration for Aha perhaps.
Lovable muse traverses time and space to inspire artist and fall in love
followed by main film song topping the UK charts - Mannequin tried that
format and bingo !
Boy meets girl from totally different backgrounds and love conquers all -
This movie just feels so TITANIC.
Xanadu is no Citizen Kane, but who cares because at the heart of it all
is an exploration of the human condition.
It's all about the spirit of dreams and the spirit of love and that tops any
plot any time.
