From the manufacturer
Virtual 3D Surround
"DTS Virtual: X" reproduces height direction in addition to the front, rear, left, and right. As a result, the sense of unity between the video and audio is improved. You can feel the sound that surrounds you from above, further improving the immersive feeling in the world of movies and music.
Have you ever found it difficult to hear voices or lines from announcements and song vocals? With Yamaha's clear voice function, you can automatically distinguish voices such as dialogue and narration from other sounds, increasing the volume of only voices. Even in movies, dramas, news programs, and music where Back Ground Music and sound effects have been used abundantly, the voice is clearer and easier to enjoy.
Rich Bass Reproduction
Dual built-in 75 mm (3 ") subwoofer unit combined with the dual bass reflex port, provides a rich and spacious bass range. The 55 mm (2-1 / 8") woofer unit x2, 25 mm (1 ") tweeter x2, further achieve a well-balanced and spacious sound quality combination from
low range to high range.
Sound Bar Controller App
Control sound modes, music and more from a free app.

This bias was part of the decision process on the soundbar. Other considerations included price and reviews.
Its not the cheapest option, nor the most expensive. Reviews are good.
Since I only have this unit, I can't compare it to others, but I am very happy, fully satisfied, and somewhat surprised at the sound quality.
My soundbar simply sits on the cabinet stand, not wall mounted. Its connected to my large screen Sony and the difference between the TV's speakers and this unit is like night and day. The TV's sound is tinny and flat, the soundbar is rich and full.
Sound customization is simple and not overly complicated.
The better sound is great for movies and really great for concerts.
Is my review all gush and roses? Yeah I guess it is, but I am very happy with it. Not quite a drawback per say, but you get used to the great sound very fast. Then you ask yourself if you're listening to the soundbar, or the TV speakers. Then you switch from the external speakers (soundbar) to the TV speakers, and yep, theres the tinny sound. Switch back to the external speakers, and yep, theres that rich sound....
Is this the best sound bar on the market? Maybe not, but for me, you could do a lot worse...
The set up however, is very time consuming and tedious. Make sure you read the entire manual. If you have never set up a speaker system before- then it may be difficult to get it right.
The one thing I really don't like about it is that the inputs are too high to completely hide the wires when wall mounting the unit. This makes the the cords poke out very slightly on the top of the soundbar when using an optical cable and subwoofer line in.
The full set up with this subwoofer sounds comparable to more expensive 2.1 systems. And unlike the cheaper Samsung 2.1 soundbars, this subwoofer will not pick up 5 GHz signal interference from certain routers/modems.
I've had this sound bar for about 6 weeks and my remote just completely stopped working, I even changed the batteries and reset the soundbar. I am getting a replacement sent and I don't think it's common- but I figure it's worth mentioning as the app is absolute trash.
I got rid of my old Bose Cinematic which was $1500 at the time I bought it and I am glad I did!
Bass is Ok, but it starts from about 50Hz; for music - more than enough. I even bought Yamaha subwoofer and then decided to return it (but didn't return because price/value is excellent). By itself, this soundbar is amazing; no subwoofer needed.
Not sure about cinema sound effects; I am not watching movies.
You can hear the difference.
Better sound. Better viewing experience.
However, the addition of a subwoofer, or subwoofers, greatly increases the cinematic experience.
This Yamaha has the outputs you need for a better cinematic experience, and movie moment to remember.
My daughter has an i phone 11 and she connects easily with its Bluetooth capabilities.
Not just movies with this sound bar, but music and more.
My daughter is happy; I am happy:
It is a win, win.
- This is great for movies even if it doesn't have a dedicated subwoofer !
- You have still have the option to add a subwoofer if you wish
- Voice clarity option to help understand dialogues more clearly
- Low profile so doesn't stand out much on the wall or tv stand.
- Controller or phoen app to control the sound bar. I prefer the phone app since you have more control.
- Didn't use it much for music but it wasn't great when I did.
- Kind of a wide soundbar especially if you have a tv with a centered stand.
Con: To mount soundbar beneath TV, instead of screw's that attach directly to the soundbar, it uses a slide on screw method. It holds it on but I'd prefer to scree it on.
