A subject dear to my heart, from a perspective unknown to me – living in Canada. The Amazon rainforest is a place on my bucket list to visit, and this book transported me there with the colours and the animals. So wonderful! The joy Zonia experiences, followed by the heart-breaking realisation of what is happening to her beautiful world has a deep impact, followed by the final words in the book giving everybody accountability for what we all must do to help. An excellent book to teach and learn more about our world and what we can do to help protect the earth.
The additional information at the back of the book was perfect to share with my eldest (6), to learn more about the Ashaninka language, the people and the Amazon rain forest. And we LOVED seeing the animal friends and learning more about them. An excellent resource, and an excellent read!
My kindergartener and first grader really love this book, and my K picks it up and asks to read it to me at-least once a week. Accessible for a new reader, important message, and really lovely illustrations. I’m so happy to have this book on our shelves!
Beautifully illustrated and a lovely story, my niece and I really enjoyed meeting Zonia and following along as she said good morning to her forest friends. The message of empowerment and rising to a cause has been a topic of discussion with my niece, and at 5 she understood the situation Zonia encountered. The additional information at the end of the book allows for enjoyment at all ages!
