This dock also charges my Zune efficiently and constantly while in use in the car which has kept me from having to lug it in every time it is dead or preventing me from having music whenever I forget to check the night before on its power level. All of the connections both in and out are in the back of the device including component which is hidden behind a plastic backing. It comes with multiple plastic mount options for varying types of Zunes which is also a smart design. While driving, my Zune doesn't wobble in the base nor even move! It stays perfectly straight and performs flawlessly!
The only issue that I had, was that when I first connected it there was some weird static/electrical hum and buzz that came over the line whenever it wasn't playing. This could have been my line in as it goes into the back of my stereo and is an aftermarket add-on. It has not occurred since the first day of owning it and has worked perfect since then.
I HAVE A QUESTION:
Has anyone tried the 30GB Zune with component cables. The regular A/V cable jack works fine and I get decent video performance. But I wanted to see if I can get better pictures with the component cables -- but no luck. If I connect the cable marked "Y" I get a (somewhat grainy) black and white picture, but other two cables don't seem to make any difference. I did select the video selector on the back of the dock to choose the component output, and select display to TV OUT = ON from the options menu. Not sure if this is a supported feature on the 30GB or component output is supported in later generation zunes. My understanding was that component out had nothing to do resolution as such and it is just a format.
BTW: Zune seems to use a non-standard convention for the triple cable split (Audio L/R and Video) from 3.5mm jack. I had to swap the cable ends for the A/V cable that came with my Cannon Video Recorder to get it to work. The Red RCA jack (Audio R) is outputting Video, and the other two channels are Audio!!
After the initial full charge using the dock and computer, we're able to use the dock alone now. Apart from the semi-wobbly condition, I would still recommend it for owners of the 120 as an alternate charge source - I'm not sure if making some alterations to the adaptor would help, but we may try that to address the unsteadiness issue.
