How is it tintable? Specifically what type of product would you use for greatest success. What sets up or hardens the colour you add??

You need to get a SOLVENT based tint, available from autobody supply shops. You just need to find a color code you want, add the required oz of tint and then your hardener (listed in the instructions included with the kit) and shake hard for at least a minute. The bottle will be very full so you may want to pour out just a little bit of the base first. Lots of YouTube videos available as well to help you.
