Straight out of the pack, the MicroSD card should work directly on a Nintendo Switch, there’s no need to format it. If you are using a MicroSD card larger than 32GB on a Nintendo 3DS XL, then you would need to format the memory card first to NTFS and then to FAT32.

Depends what games you download. Sizes can range from 15 gigs to 70gigs my son has 10 games downloaded plus saves from other games he plays and still has like 70% of the memory card unused.
