Yes, the main game is full co-op ... but not until after you have unlocked that mode via an early quest. <MILD SPOILERS FOLLOW> You start as Luigi alone, then, after certain achievements, you unlock Guigi - the green blob version of Luigi shown on the cover. Much like the Lego games, from thereon. ie. in single player, you can switch in and out of Guigi. You can also "put him away" in your backpack. Guigi has abilities that Luigi does not, which add a nice dimension :-). You then have the option, in the options screen, to play Co-op instead. ie. Player2 controls Guigi. you press L+R on two controllers, and you in full-co-op for the rest of the game. You can still "put away" Guigi in Luigi's back-pack. There is no split screen.
