The bumper guard seems to be sturdy enough overall. The weakest spot on it are the anti-sway cradles. The way they attach to the rack is poorly engineered. Under the weight of our lightweight aluminium framed mountain bikes both of the crades were bent and came out of the frame resulting in rubbing of the bike frames.
Good customer service from Thule though as they were prompt to send replacement cradles after filing warranty complaint. The issue is the new cradles are of the same quality so I don't expect them to hold up either.
