I'm not sure how I feel about this book. Its very Irish and even having grown up just over the sea in South west Scotland a lot of the irish-y things went over my head. This book is also very teenage. I'm 19 but mostly I read romance novels about thirty-somethings. It was a change of pace. There was a stretch where I found it arduous. It's a much sadder book than I was ever anticipating and I'm not grownup enough to see the ending as fair and realistic. God damn it *SPOILER* I wanted them to stay together! On a more serious note this book deals with a lot of heavy topics that I just was not anticipating to wade through, some of which really hit a little too close to home. A fantastic depiction of teenage psyche here, I would say. And bang on verbalisation as to what attraction feels like.

Clever and funny so I’m laughing. Then I find out a bit more about Saoirse’s circumstances and I’m crying. I couldn’t put this book down, thank goodness I was off work so I didn’t risk getting the sack for not turning up due to reading. Thank goodness husband was also off so children were still fed while I was reading, at least I think so.. I’m still getting over the loss of finishing this book.

Witty, well-paced and excellently characterised this book takes you on a journey of development. What looks like overcoming heartbreak is actually about a young woman coming into herself. No matter who you are I think the poignancy of that metamorphosis will be relatable. The fact this is Queer literature is almost an aside, just as it should be. GLAAD introduced the ‘Russo Test’ for gay representation in film. If such a test were applied to this novel it would pass with flying colours. A must buy.

This book was something completely unexpected for me. Because of the book title, I thought it would be focused with movie cliches and the followings of young love. While there is that, this book is so much more. This book was a perfect mix of angst, heartbreak and emotions and made me really feel for the protagonist, Saoirse. I love how the book was written in Saoirse's perspective and how she is constantly learning and embracing to the life around her. She conveys very raw emotions and is such a relatable character and I particular love how you, as a reader, grow with her character.

This book is very engaging and was incredibly easy to read. I finished it in one day! Bravo to Ciara Smyth on her novel debut. Well done you.

I loved this book so much! It was my first proper romance novel and definitely my first LGBT one but I was blown away by it. It is so much more than a simple love story. The characters feel so real, you can feel that the book is set in Ireland (I LOVED how IRISH it was, but not to any degree that would make the book jargon to non-Irish readers) and so many devastating issues swirl around the main plot that are handled with grace. This book was so real, funny, heart-wrenching and while it didn't make life out to be perfect, I was completely satisfied when I reached the final lines.
