Solid cultivation novel

Defiance of the Fall is a mixture of the typical System Apocalypse with cultivation novels.

The story has a solid progression system with well detailed skills, titles, and fights. Worldbuilding is decent enough, but nothing extraordinary that truly sets it apart from other novels.

Defiance of the Fall excels in the flowing storytelling, leaving the reader always ready and eager to turn the pages. There are, however, some heavy information dumps I felt should be either scattered evenly through the book or simply cut.

What keeps this story from being a true 5 stars book is the lack of interactions, therefore lack of meaningful character development. It feels like only a few demons really have a personality, while most have just names and specific roles which they are good at.

Pretty standard system apocalypse stuff. The story itself is quite good. The MC should feel overpowered but somehow manages to find challenges that make the book interesting.

While the writing quality is actually pretty good, the style is sometimes...odd. It almost feels like this book was written by someone who learned English as a second language. There were a ton of overly-repeated words and many everyday expressions were done wrong; Things that no native English speaker would ever screw up. It wasn't enough to ruin the book, but it was noticeable.

Overall pretty good start to the series. Looking forward to Book 2.

The first book is solid. It wasn't amazing, but it is a solid start. I'm writing this review after finishing the 3rd book in the series. It is worth reading more then most others in the genre, because his writing is getting better with each book so far. I highly recommend this series to all fans of litrpg, I am so happy to find a series that doesn't fizzle after the first book or two. Make a pot of coffee binge. There is an entire world to explore here.

About the only thing negative I have to say about it is that the author thinks that a hatchet and an axe are same thing, and uses the two terms interchangeably. On the positive side, the story advances further in the first book than several similar stories that I have read. It's nice when a ride doesn't end as soon as you expect it to.

This story takes a bit of time to get going, but it's well worth the time invested - by the end of the first book, I was hooked.

The MC is a well-rounded, interesting character who, while way over-powered, has equally fearsome adversaries (by the second book, anyway). One of the main strengths of this series, however, is the depth of detail that goes into creating the System - its background, its rules, and how Earth is really only protected from the super-old powerhouses who have had eons to develop their own strength by the anonymity granted by the System...and even that is under threat.

In short, this story starts with a single character and his personal struggle in the new reality he finds himself, and very quickly develops into something where his actions may determine the fate of the entire planet.

Thoroughly recommended if you enjoy epic LitRPG stories.

Enjoyed the development of the MC and the slow building of a new reality. Grateful for the size of the book, too many fantasy novels are around 200-300 pages and do not take long to consume.
