Surviving the first days of the apocalypse, William is a wreck and hiding in an attic. The daily acid storms, floating elementals, and bizarre mutated animals are the least of his problems. The reality-warping apocalypse has rules and a system much like those in video games. To survive, he must learn how the new uncooperative system works, choose a class without any real knowledge of what it does and create a place safe from the spawning horrors.
For William, staying alive isn’t enough. He will need to bring other survivors together and build a fortification large enough for all of them if he ever wants to strike back at the things that took everyone he loved. That is if he can ever gain control over himself and finally get any answers to what has happened.

I sincerely hope for the quality and ability to only get better from here.
The only real critique I have is a lack of detail on supporting characters. I find new authors struggle with this the most but if we don't know anything of characters we don't care when or how they died. I'm not asking for side character novellas, but some different pov and some side arcs where we see important side characters develope would be greatly appreciated and honestly I think its going to be needed. This will also serve to make more content for consumption which is a win for me lol. Sorry for being a bit selfish.
Thank you for this
I look forward to the next book
MC is not an angst ridden teenager, humour and pop references are there but not overdone which is a nice change for the genre.
Very much looking forward to book two
And if it is a thing, why is it so poorly done?
The premise is sketchy enough. Some unknown cosmic power decides to bring about the apocalypse by bringing monsters and weird floating notifications for . . . Reasons.
Fine.
Everyone gets statistics that alter their minds and bodies and levels which grant them power.
Fine.
But why is it some random, aging survivor in the middle of nowhere is the one who figures out how to become powerful? Wouldn't it make more sense for genuinely strong people like soldiers or smart like doctors or scientists to also figure this out?
Also, why make these stats and experience points and notifications, then pretty much ignore them? Why have hit points when you can just oneshot a "boss" more than twice your level with a well-aimed blow?
And don't even talk about class balance. Sure, the main character needs to be overpowered because he's the main character of course (sarcasm). But really?
"My class lets me cook meals for a slight buff."
"Well mine lets me heal minor wounds in cooldown."
"Oh, I'm the main character so mine let's me instantly scan an entire building, instantly take ownership, claim all resources down to the molecular level no matter how big or small, instantly remake it into anything I want even if I have no knowledge of how it works, and take no resources, effort or cooldowns. Oh and I can pick any stats I want and learn any skills I want too. Oh and I can learn magic."
"Oh. That's cool I guess. Would you like a nice tasting steak?"

MC is very enjoyable. Relationships and friendships are handled very well.
Power levels and MC is overpowered just enough to make this interresting whole not being a universe ending powerhouse just yet.
Overall a truly enjoyable book!! Can't wait for the next installment!
