I enjoyed Cowboy Bebop Knockin' On Heaven's door, which was released in Japan in 2001, about two years after the last episode of Cowboy Bebop aired. The movie takes place between the 22nd and 23rd episode of the tv show, but is intended to be a stand-alone story. However, I don't believe it will have the same impact for viewers who haven't seen the original show. My recommendation is to watch this in the chronological order. You could either order the complete series on Blu-ray, or watch it for free on Funimation. (in it's sub or dub form), then order this movie as a companion piece.
Cowboy Bebop The Movie is very good, but I think it's better to think of it as an episode from the show, just with a bigger animation budget and longer run time.
