I don't say surprisingly because I'm not an Aquaman fan--I'm probably one of the biggest Aquaman fans--but more just that the Justice League film didn't leave me with a lot of warm feelings for this interpretation of the character. I was skeptical, but DC and Warner went all out here in an all or nothing hail Mary swing that paid off big time. Spectacle is the watchword here, there are close to twice as many action set pieces as you'll get in your average superhero blockbuster. The middle bit kind of drags, but it's easily overlooked when you're watching a comics-accurate Black Manta rampage through Sicily or lobster men duking it out with giant seahorses. 4/5, a lot of fun.
