It may not be the completely new Mario Kart game we would have hoped for on the Switch but it is definitive and really is a must buy for anybody with a Switch that didn't own a Wii U. It contains every piece of content ever released for Mario Kart 8 and in our case a few features that are completely new and add a huge amount of value as a family oriented game when you've got particularly young players involved in the form of the smart steering and the automatic acceleration.
Each of those features can be toggled on and off on a per-player basis from the pause menu (a little bit hidden, look at the top of the screen) so you can easily mix and match for the skill of each player. Basically, even my 3 year old daughter can play this game because of the smart steering which basically will keep the kart from going off-track while still giving you enough leeway in control to remain in control of the kart - really prevents a lot of frustration for the little ones that would otherwise be continually falling off the tracks without interfering with the game for the other players.
The game runs absolutely perfectly in both handheld and docked mode and looks great for what it is.
