As a guilt-ridden but lazy (and frankly ignorant) white liberal, I found this to be an easy (if you can call anything so sad "easy") to read overview of Canada's and the US's relationship with their indigenous people. King's anger and sorrow is apparent as he brings to life our depressing history. His humor kept me reading instead of going to the liquor cabinet to drown my despair; often biting, it doesn't let us off the hook but it somehow oils the swallowing of hard truths. A great book that I hope permeates our national consciousness so that we enter into the building of a new relationship with First Nations with open hearts. Susan Howe
