This is a very readable book. It is full of fascinating stories of what it was like to live under Apartheid. It is also a story of a mother and son who would not be limited by the societal view of how you were expected to behave and live. Noah writes in an engaging way and often leaves one helpless with laughter. At the same time he can express in a moving insightful way the plight of women in abusive relationships. The book ends with an explosive event involving his mother and stepfather but Noah still ends the book on a humorous note
