These are definitely not for all surfaces. Followed instructions of cleaning surface thoroughly and yet the straps came off within 2 days from my wooden nightstand..and my 15 month old wasn't even yanking the drawers open. However, 2 of these have held well (so far) on one of the IKEA chest of drawers (hence one extra star in the review).
Unfortunately, it's largely a useless purchase for me. I have to look for other options now.
