This book was beautifully written. While it did feel reminiscent of Donna Tartt's "The Secret History", I still felt that it was in a league of its own. The way that Shakespeare's plays were integrated into the plot was such a unique and fun way to tell a story, and I loved the way that the characters spoke in prose much of the time. This book was very much character-driven, and I loved almost every single character, when the book ended I did not want to let them go. The relationship between James and Oliver was unique and beautiful, while at times it was almost disturbing to see how far they'd go for one another. As a debut novel, this is phenomenal. I could not put it down, and I cannot wait for more novels from M.L. Rio.
