Return a Gift

The Returns Centre allows gift recipients to return items marked as a gift at the time of purchase. The type of refund or credit you receive depends on how the gift was purchased and how it's returned. Gift recipients won't be eligible for exchanges or instant refunds.

If you'd like to return a gift, go to

To return a gift:

  1. Go to the Returns Centre using a desktop or laptop browser. If prompted, sign in to your Amazon account. If you don't have an account, you'll need to create one.
  2. Enter the order number for the item you want to return.


    • You can find your 17-digit order number (or "Order ID") on your packing slip or on the digital gift receipt that we emailed to you. If you can't locate your packaging slip or digital gift receipt, contact us. We'll ask for information to help us locate the order, such as the tracking number, name of sender, etc. You can find this information on the shipping box.
    • If the item wasn't marked as a gift at the time of purchase, you'll be prompted to contact Customer Service.

  3. Select Continue.
  4. Select the items you want to return, enter the quantity of items you want to return, and then select a return reason from the drop-down menu. For items sold by a third-party seller, you'll see Submit return request. Some Amazon sellers review return requests before authorizing them.
  5. Select your return shipping options and how you'll obtain your return label. Each return requires a separate return label. To make sure that you receive the correct refund, don't include items from multiple orders or deliveries in the same package.
  6. Print your label and return authorization. Some returns don't require you to print a label or authorization. If you don't have a printer when you're completing your return, you can print later (we'll email you a link to your label) or you can have someone else print your label for you.
  7. Put the return authorization inside your package and attach the label to the outside of it.


  • If you're the gift recipient, we'll process your refund as an Amazon.ca Gift Card after we receive your return. We'll add the gift card to the Amazon account you use to generate your return. If you're the gift giver, you'll receive a refund to the original payment method. All refunds are subject to our refund policies outlined in Refunds.
  • A returned item must be in the same condition in which it was received (including all accessories), as stated in our return policy. Refunds for returned items that are not received in this condition, may be reduced. If you've received a gift and wish to return it, we'll assess the gift and it may be subject to a reduced refund.   • Once our returns department processes your return, we can't send the item back to you.
  • Before you return items on which you've saved personal information, such as laptops, cameras, or other electronic devices, erase this information completely.
  • A-to-z Guarantee claims for gifts purchased from a third-party seller must be filed by the original purchaser, not the gift returner. If you need to file a claim for a gift return, contact the original purchaser or Customer Service.
