About the author

Ciara Geraghty is an Irish bestselling novelist. She lives in Dublin with one husband, two 'technically' grown up children and one actual kid, who is probably the most mature of the lot of them. When she is not writing in her garret, Ciara loves reading, swimming in the sea and playing her violin. The neighbours adore her, obviously....

I loved the many references to Dublin as the setting for this story; although I don't live there, I found that the mentioning of landmarks here and there drew me further into the story. The story's characters were entirely likable and well developed; I really wanted to know how the events of this book would work out for them all.
As in 'Lifesaving for Beginners', the author anchors her story around serious subjects (in this case, mental health and parenting), but somehow manages beautifully to weave a very readable, engaging narrative around them. Ciara Geraghty creates plenty of subtle light relief throughout the book with the help of heart-of-gold crackpots such as Vinnie's friend Kenny, unintentionally humorous lines from Vinnie's little boy Finn, and Vinnie's fabulous old Ma.
I'm looking forward to picking up another of Ciara Geraghty's books soon.
