Wow I really enjoyed this! I can’t wait to start the second book.
There were many things I loved about this but the main ones are:
• FMC is 34 with a regular job and regular problems.
She felt she was not considered model-esque and felt a lot of insecurity about it but also knew that her appearance was not what defined her. She took great pride in her craft and worked to be a good person.
As someone who is also 5’1” I understood a lot of her inner monologue about her body insecurities and feeling intimidated around others.
• MMC is kind of a dink, but was never overtly mean to FMC and gave off genuine vibes of wanting her to be well without undermining her own abilities.
•No insta-love here!
•Unique world-building and an interesting plot.
•Fun secondary characters

Some things I didn’t love:
• Pacing starts off fast, then kind of gets slower (but it is setting up the series so it’s forgivable)
That’s pretty much it. A solid start to this series.

I just finished re-reading the seven books of the Emporer’s Edge series, and wanted a change before going into the Republic series again. This was my change - also written by her - and it proved to be an excellent choice. I’m off to Book 2 now.

I am really enjoying this series, urban fantasy is my favorite genres so great to find a new series i love! Also, great title! i like the characters in this book, Matti is a down to earth, funny heroine, the hammer is awesome!, and the supporting characters are a great bunch. Love the world building, it's always great when a new fantasy world catches your interest and you can't wait to read more books in the series to find out more about this world/Universe the author has created (my only disappointment is that dragons seem to be jerks in this universe, but i digress). Great story, can't wait to get to the 2nd book, so i have to stop writing this review so i can download it, later!

I'm a big fan of Buroker and her feisty heroines, so this new series is a real pleasure to read. I think Matti is great and her partners, Tinja and Abbas, are quite entertaining. And what's not to love about an elven assassin? There's so much potential for mayhem in her quest to find out what happened to her mother, and am curious to find out both if she's allowed to contact her father and how her relationship with her half-sister proceeds, since she denies Matti's dwarven heritage (and what happens when she can't!). I'm so looking forward to finding out what comes next!

I have enjoyed other books from this author but found this book pretty weak. As a writer, I consider Buroker to be a level above the commodity writers of a lot of the books on Kindle Unlimited. The weakness of this book is the plot which relies heavily on luck and coincidence and is just a string of events instead of being influenced by the protagonist.
I will probably treat this book as the first half of a proper book and check out the next book to see if the series improves.

I really don’t know how Lindsay does it! Even more engaging characters to create your journey through the world’s she creates. In this adventure, as well as previous characters from her Dragon Series, Val, Zav, Willard and the goblins, we meet Matti, half human, half dwarf who has inherited a magical dwarf hammer from her dead mother. She’s introduced several mysteries, including her mother’s death, what’s happened to her father and will she find out about possible family? As per usual I read through at my breakneck speed and now am left bereft (dramatic sigh!) so I am waiting with eager expectation for further iterations. Some characters are also now growing in narrative and background including Sarrlevi, the assassin. How is that part of the plot going to unfurl. Wonderful female characters and nice to see diversity in their creation too. Happy days, book 2 ordered.

Enter the magical world of the dwarves, goblins and an elf assassin. Flipping houses can be fun if it's straightforward, but this storyline is far from it. It has multiple factors that makes it more complicated than it should be.

Matti is a half dwarf who enjoys flipping houses. She is good at the job she loves. Then, there is Tinja, a goblin who helps in her endeavour. They are working on this house and she soon finds that there buried "treasure" under the house. Something magical that various factions in her supernatural world is hunting for. She is surrounded by werewolves and orcs who are looking for what is under this house. There is a Willard who is trying to recruit her for the army, but she loves her current job and is reluctant to accept her offer. There is a some fascinating magic and an elf assassin too. They work well together and there is a hint of attraction between them. Will they or won't they?

There is some magical talent around them and the elf is quite magical himself. He has some interesting gadgets and he is looking for Matti's mother who is presumed dead. It's a long winded read with some fun attached to it. Zav is a dragon who wears the most fascinating shoes. He has a minor role in this book and it is all in good fun. I must admit that it took me a while to really get into this read and I am glad that I persevered to the end, which isn't really the end. It looks like there is more to come in the next book and I have a big question mark as whether to read or not. Time will tell.
