Our favorite book this year was Starring Carmen! This beautifully Illustrated book features a Hispanic family like mine and was perfect for our musical theatre loving family. My girls could completely relate to Carmen and her love of putting on productions. We even used it to formulate Theatre activities in our Drama class.

Meet Carmen! She LOVES the spotlight and applause. She's an actress, a singer, a dancer—a one-girl sensación! She exhausts her parents with her nightly performances and completely overshadows Eduardo, her adoring little brother. But when Eduardo shows his big sister how much he loves her in a way even Carmen can’t ignore, will Carmen realize that the stage is big enough for two?

Review
"Gómez's art seems to leap off the page...For caregivers of extremely extroverted kids, Carmen's ambitions will feel very familiar; for kid readers, Carmen and Eduardo's very fun activities might inspire some musical productions at home." (Kirkus)
"A wonderful celebration of creativity and imagination that may inspire readers to engage in their own dramatic productions. What fun!" (School Library Journal) --This text refers to the hardcover edition.

Bigger than life!

For all kids whose personalities are bigger than they are! This lovely book really struck a chord with the drama queen of my childhood, though my heart ultimately went to little brother, Eduardo, who shares my second-sibling, second-in-the-spotlight status. Vibrant illustrations and clever story with relatable characters. Love it!
