Learn to Work with the Magick of the Dark Moon
Shadow magick occupies a critical but often misunderstood role in the rich history of witchcraft. This book explores topics such as the ethical use of animal parts and bones, blood magick, dark moon energy, and other rarely discussed aspects of witchcraft.
With a focus on ethically sourcing materials and suggestions for plant-based substitutions, author Kate Freuler provides much-needed information and hands-on techniques to help you strengthen your witchcraft practice, connect to nature, protect yourself (and your kith and kin), and know yourself in a deep way. Within these pages, you will also discover methods for hexing, scrying, sex magick, and working with dark deities in addition to the magickal use of graveyard dirt and performing spells to assist the crossing of a dying loved one. The shadow work explored in Of Blood and Bones reminds us that not everything is love and light, and that facing the dark side supports the quest to achieve spiritual wholeness.

"Witchcraft is not tame. We do a disservice to our craft in thinking so. Of Blood and Bone is an excellent introductory guide to exploring the depths of Withcraft and finding value in its darker side. Freuler leads readers through difficult topics in an approachable and authentic way. A good resource for anyone working with this side of magickal practice."―Stephanie Woodfield, author of Dark Goddess Craft

This impressive piece of work both guides and encourages modern Witches to reach into the deeper wisdom of their sacred hearts to uncover genuine healing and self-awareness. Written with intelligence, integrity, and sincerity, Of Blood & Bones is a brave exploration into the beautiful shadowscape of magickal work and personal development."―Raven Digitalis, author of Shadow Magick Compendium & Esoteric Empathy

About the authors
Mat Auryn is an influential figure within the occult and witchcraft communities in the United States and worldwide, distinguished by his deep knowledge and practice in these esoteric realms. His expertise is shaped significantly by decades of personal private study, as well as his initiations into numerous traditions of occultism, witchcraft, and esoteric orders, where he received guidance and mentorship from highly renown figures within these traditions. Auryn’s vast knowledge is encapsulated in his two multiple award-winning books, “Psychic Witch: A Metaphysical Guide to Meditation, Magick & Manifestation” and “Mastering Magick: A Course in Spellcasting for the Psychic Witch“. These influential works invite readers to explore and refine their psychic abilities and delve deeper into magick and spellcasting, respectively.
His work, recognized for its innovation and deep roots in historical occultism, serves as a comprehensive and accessible guide for the modern spiritual seeker. Drawing upon a wide array of traditions and practices, Auryn's teachings weave together the rich wisdom of the Papyri Graecae Magicae (PGM), Hermeticism, Neoplatonism, Alchemy, Victorian occultism, Thelema, Wicca, the Anderson Feri tradition of Witchcraft, Trad Craft, and modern witchcraft, folk magic, modern metaphysics, Parapsychology, Spiritualism, Theosophy, New Thought, and Jungian Analysis. This broad scope forms a unique tapestry that offers a holistic and deeply rooted perspective on these diverse spiritual and philosophical traditions.
Auryn's ability to simplify complex and advanced occult concepts is noteworthy, with his teachings demystifying esoteric principles to make them readily accessible to his readers. This capacity to distil complex ideas into comprehensible terms has earned him considerable praise and recognition within the community among his peers and elders. Auryn places a significant emphasis on the practical application of these esoteric principles within a magickal context. He furnishes readers with tools, techniques, and exercises, enabling them to apply this wisdom in their spiritual journey to achieve tangible results. This practical, results-oriented approach, further empowers his readers and gives them the confidence to transform knowledge into practice, and transform their lives with practice.
Auryn's writing style, both empowering and supportive, nurtures a sense of personal agency among his readers. His teachings advocate for the individual's capacity to navigate these multifaceted spiritual landscapes and weave these practices into their daily lives. His work bridges the gap between ancient wisdom and contemporary spiritual practice, serving as both a compass and a torch for those exploring the depths of occult practice, psychic development, and witchcraft. His distinctive blend of streams of esoteric traditions, coupled with an innovative approach firmly rooted in historical occultism, positions Auryn as an empowering, inclusive, and trailblazing guide in the ever-evolving landscape of modern spirituality.
His books’ global appeal is demonstrated by their translation into over 13 languages. His work has garnered recognition to the extent of being featured in the Buckland Museum of Witchcraft, and his insight has also been requested for the contributions and forewords of dozens of witchcraft books, attesting to his respected position in the field. In addition to his widely recognized books, Auryn has also written the foreword for several witchcraft books, further cementing his respected standing within the field. He has made significant contributions to a range of Pagan and occult publications, including the Witches’ Almanac and numerous Llewellyn periodicals. He also pens a column in Witches & Pagans magazine titled “Extrasensory Witchcraft,” where he shares his insights on integrating psychic abilities with witchcraft practices. Auryn’s influence extends beyond specialized publications to mainstream media. His work has been featured in notable outlets such as O, The Oprah Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Newsweek, Refinery29, Bustle, Religious News Network, Publisher’s Weekly, Female First, and various newspapers. Serving as a public representative of witchcraft and psychism, he leverages these platforms to bring these practices into public consciousness.
Before becoming a prolific writer, Auryn was a renowned psychic reader in Salem, Massachusetts, where he quickly established a reputation for his accurate psychic readings. His clientele included celebrities, CEOs, and other influential figures, further attesting to his expertise in the field. Despite his successful career as a psychic reader, Auryn decided to retire from public psychic readings, channeling his energy towards writing books instead. His objective is to guide the public in discovering and embracing their psychic abilities for themselves and empowering their lives through a magickal practice. Mat Auryn now resides in the Bay Area of California, where he continues his work as a writer and advocate.
Auryn shares his wealth of knowledge through workshops, classes, and keynote lectures. These teachings underscore the importance of personal experience and intuition, guiding students in creating their unique spiritual paths within the broader realm of the occult. Auryn is also a fervent advocate for intersectionality and the rights of marginalized groups within the Pagan and witchcraft communities. As an openly gay man, his commitment to inclusivity and creating a welcoming environment extends to advocating for all marginalized people within these communities. His dedication to inclusivity and his overwhelming support of his author peers and others in the witchcraft community led him to become the very first recipient of the “Most Supportive Witch Award” presented by Witch Way magazine.

Beautifully written with no apologies.
Bravo, your courage in unveiling the darker side of the craft is refreshingly real and necessary.
My wings took a luxurious stretch and felt once more, vigorous with renewed majick.

I especially loved the shadow side of each element, something I'd always sought but hadn't found a good framework for.
This book is perfect for the practitioner who prefers the gristle of the craft; witches who aren't afraid of getting muddy and bloody. Bones and flesh are used in reverence, not for shock value as some authors attempt.
Anchoring dark moon energy into your practice is a joy with Freuller as your guide. She brings intelligence and wisdom to an area of the craft usually portayed with OTT theatrics. Night workings are the backbone of an effective witch's practice and Llewellyn has published a dark gem at last!
