An exciting horse adventure, perfect for listeners from nine to 14 years old - and older according to many who have enjoyed it!
Evy can telepathically understand horses, but she’s not sure if it’s a blessing or a curse. Her secret “gift” certainly seems to get her in lots of trouble.
When some starving mustangs wander close to the wilderness cabin that she shares with her hermit mother, she knows she must help them. Her act of kindness quickly snowballs into a series of events that forever change her life and the life of a very special mustang filly.

I really relaxed and cheered for Evy and her horse friends. A gentle read and insightful about animals, I learned a few things! And I totally identified with her Mom.

Amazing book. Angela's writing is beautiful and I own several copies of her books. Wonderful books that both children and adults may enjoy. The imagery she uses is beautiful and her plot lines are amazing. This book leaves you wanting the next one ASAP.

At the start of this book I couldn't understand or get into it but now, well I loved it and wished the book was longer.
A great read perfect for pony lover girls aged 10+
SPOILER!
Evy can see and feel ponies thoughts and feelings causing her to have many nightmares.
One night she feels Twilight - one of her favourite ponies - pain so she sneaks out the house to witness a horrible scene.
This scene may have been a horrible scene however, it changes Evy's life in a good way

Gift, not a curse
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on September 28, 2021Verified Purchase
Not my usual kind of book, but I thought I'd give it a go. There were a few themes of fables inside as Evy could understand the feelings of the horses, and it's understanding why she might be cursed, as not many would understand what she has or what she's going through, but while reading the book, I believe that she just has a gift and not cursed at all. It was nice seeing her journey with these horses and sharing their feelings and what she knows about each of the horses! Great story and a great read.

Winter of the crystal dances
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on July 29, 2017Verified Purchase
This atmospheric gentle fantasy is highly enjoyable and should be loved by girls who like horses.
A girl aged thirteen and her artist mother live in a mountain cabin without electricity. They ride horses and watch the local bands of mustangs. But now the winter has brought deep snow, and this might be good for scenic paintings but it's no help to wild creatures in need of food.
Told by Evy, who has the gift of being able to feel the emotions of the horses, and sometimes communicate with them, this winter's tale is replete with change and responsibility; with friendship. I love the varied vocabulary and landscape descriptions. We can learn a lot about caring for horses and injuries. I thought the feeding the wolves part was overdone, but it adds drama. We are left to wonder what Evy will learn when she explores the reason why her mother never goes to town. That's for the next books. Have fun!

Love horse stories but I wish they'd state what age it's for before purchase?

Didn't know what the age range for this book was until after downloading it and now I can't remove it from my library? Why is everything such a chore with digital apps? You spend half of your life investigating how to do things and then wonder where the time went?
