Junior is the Timmi Tobbson "early reader" series for adventurers and sleuths aged 6-8. In this series' first title, a secret message in an ancient book sends Timmi and his friends - including a three-legged frog - on a wild ride to unravel a life-changing mystery and become the Young Explorers.

In typical Timmi Tobbson fashion, each Junior book offers solve-them-yourself picture mysteries, but that's not all. Accompanying the story is additional content aimed at sparking interest in technology, history and science in general.

Mysteries to Solve

Your child is the detective, and it's up to them to find and interpret clues. Each Timmi Tobbson Junior adventure is divided into short chapters that end with a puzzle to be solved. Clues to the mystery are concealed both within the story and in the colorful illustrations, allowing children to combine information from different sources (text and illustrations) and make logical deductions. This hand-on approach trains kids' problem-solving capabilities and adds a certain level of immersion to the reading experience.

Facts for Explorers

After the story is completed, the book dives deeper into some of the themes shown in the story. Want to know more about ancient riddles, sunken treasure, or the role of secret passageways throughout history? The "Facts for Explorers" section investigates the real-life facts behind the purely fictitious elements of Timmi's story. "Facts for Explorers" aims to spark a little bit of interest in topics like technology, history, and science in general, encouraging kids to be more curious in their everyday lives.

Activities and Tips for Adventurers and Detectives

The third section of the book offers creative tips and tricks. How can you build a device that can turn saltwater into drinking water with just household appliances? How can you collect fingerprints with baking soda? How can you develop your own code to write secret messages? These pages motivate kids to experiment, explore, create, and build.

Staying true to the Timmi Tobbson brand, this is a story about friendship and about the drive to explore, to inquire, and to second-guess. I bought this for my 7 year old daughter. She is transitioning to chapter books. She has plenty of chapter books already but she still finds that having so many words on the page is overwhelming.

This book reads like a chapter book but the pages are less intimidating to a young reader. She was immediately hooked to the mysteries and clues and even called her sister to come listen. They both really enjoyed what they’ve read so far.

I’m definitely going to order more!

If you have a young reader who is getting ready for chapter books, this one is great.

My 7 year old son was VERY excited to get this book. He read it all in one sitting. He loved the activities, which seemed to be challenging and interesting. He was disappointed at the end, though. He said the was basically an introduction to the characters and nothing exciting happened. He wants to read the next book in the series when he hopes there will be a meatier plot as well as the fun activities.

I did not read the book myself, but that was the impression of my second grader.
