4.0 out of 5 stars a sweet story

This is an adorable picture book, such a sweet story. All the little toys are lined up on the windowsill, each waiting for something different.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid book... but not for the Kindle

I purchased this book for my daughter and read it on the Kindle app -- reading books on the Kindle is the toddler's new 'thing' - I have to say I'm wholly to blame for starting this habit and I've spent quite a bit of money on books for the Kindle in recent weeks -- since starting this trend I've found that many books aren't suited for the Kindle, in my opinion this is one of those books -- Now one can argue that no books are suited for the Kindle, maybe you just like the aesthetic of the printed page? -- and maybe that's me -- but I don't think this book can be done justice on a Kindle -- and with that said, it's not worth the current price to purchase it for that medium.

Summary: Several small toys/knick knacks if you will, sit on a windowsill waiting for something or nothing at all --

I do think the book is worthwhile, it's not a classic by any means -- but it has a thoughtful voice, one in which a lesser writer could not have achieved in so few pages --I found the book engaging, wondering what will happen with each toy as their waiting ends - well I have to say I was a bit disappointed on most fronts, I guess I was expecting something more clever... but possibly I just got a face full of reality, the book is sort of melancholy so I guess it works-- now that's my opinion -- the toddler was a little less impressed, this so far has been a one read book(that very well may change) and with that I circle around to the cost of the Kindle version -- she was engaged throughout the reading, no flying off my lap or engaging in other activities, but she didn't shout Again!! as she usually does when really excited about a story -- So in the end, if I'm going to have a one read book, I probably would have preferred something more tangible -- I would give this book 3 and a half stars, but for the strength of the writing, I think I can round up -- plus, I truly did like it...

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book with calming message

I love Kevin Henkes’s artwork. Be sure to also read _Little White Rabbit_ and _Old Bear_. This is a simple story with a great message, that you never know what unexpected things you might see or experience while you are “ just waiting.” I almost gave 5 stars bc I’d like to give a 4.8 — I wish that the ceramic elephant didn’t break and I find the sentence accompanying this to be unsatisfying. If Henkes wanted to point out that not all of what you see and experience will be happy, it seems this could have been done in a different way. Still, the book is gorgeous and the story is so calming. We’ve had this for years and my 7-yr-old son still enjoys it.

Definitely recommend this story! But it’s a bit annoying to flip the book every time you open it… 4stars for printing failure

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute book, dirty cover

This book is very cute... one of the cutest children's books I've seen... but the white cover arrived dirty and with it being a paper cover, I haven't been able to get the dirt off. I would remove it, completely, but the actual book is a plain cover.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still waiting.

Irony. I read a review of this Henkes book. I wanted to read it because of the review. My library didn't yet have a copy. Amazon delivered the content as their Kindle edition in a few seconds to my iPad. I call it 'irony' because there was no waiting! By the way, I was disappointed that the Kindle edition does not include the cataloguing information on the back of the title page that the review mentions. Henkes commented that the Library of Congress had catalogued the book under the subject Philosophy--Fiction. I can think of a number of books that I have read which would fit in that subject heading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very relaxing book, my kids love it

We first became fans of Kevin Henkes with the wonderful "Old Bear". Since then we've tried "Kitten's First Full Moon" and now "Waiting". One of the nice things is that while they are all beautifully illustrated, they do not look the same. They do all have a peaceful undercurrent, a sense of wonder. "Waiting" is illustrated in a pastel palette, it's relaxing to look at and to read. There are plenty of details for the observant child to enjoy. My kids like it, and bring it to me to read to them regularly.

4.0 out of 5 stars It is a cute book and the children enjoyed the story and the pictures

I read this book to my grand daughter's kindergarten class as part of their reading program. It is a cute book and the children enjoyed the story and the pictures. Although I thought they were a little old for this book. It was the only one of the three that they remembered a week later.

4.0 out of 5 stars so simple and so deep

I loved almost everything about this book. There were a couple of pages that my very young students weren't clear on - and neither was I. But this is a quiet story that runs deep. Definitely worth a look.

We weren’t sure my grandson would like this book. Turns out it has become a favorite. He still hates waiting, but he now tells himself to be patient.
