2.0 out of 5 stars Did not deliver

It's okay. The story kinda goes nowhere at the end. The bear decides his pants are broken and says in a sarcastic tone, 'thanks for making me blame my friends pants' instead of owning up to the fact that he pee'd his pants and apologizes, which is what I was expecting. Was hoping the story would be helpful for my son who is having an issue, but really did not deliver.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 24, 2019
Children's books can be such a joy to read. I also treat them seriously because, carefully crafted, they can be an extraordinary teaching tool.

Unfortunately, "Who Wet My Pants?", by Bob Shea, fell short as a story on so many levels, and ultimately, I can't wholeheartedly recommend it. A bear troop leader for something resembling the Boy Scouts (Bear Scout?) has a wet spot on his crotch just as he finishes handing out donuts to his animal troop while they are on a camping trip. Now, in this spot in the narrative, no one really even cares! The cute little animal (and one Bigfoot) campers just tell their leader that it was probably an accident, and they seem relatively unconcerned. But the leader insists that they find out which one of them wet his pants. The story moves along as he recounts his short day (of course the readers realize that HE wet his pants), and finishes with the leader deciding that his PANTS are defective. Case closed!

The problem is that no lessons are learned, by anyone. The leader remains obtuse, insistent that anyone (or anything) but him wet his pants. At one point, he insists that no one can eat donuts until someone confesses. This isn't the way true leaders behave. He's supposed to be the adult in the situation, right? He can't blame his campers for something ridiculous that HE DID. The campers aren't really concerned. The young campers know it's an accident--from the pictures, it's pretty clear they realize what's going on.

But book just doesn't make authority figures out to be anything but silly and obtuse. He should be willing to admit his own mistakes. Also, the book is hesitant to place any value on the idea that accidents happen. They just do. They can happen to anyone, and it's okay.

The art didn't really appeal to me, either, but that's just a subjective judgment. Some of the little camp creatures were adorable, but I tend toward a more colorful palette. That's just me, and a very personal statement.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wasn’t a fan of the main character

My 2nd grader thought this book was funny. I think it’s ok. I like the parts of the book where his friends were understanding and supportive but I don’t like that the main character blames everyone else and never owns up to his accident, even til the very end he blames everyone but himself. Not sure this is the kind of “lesson” I would want my kids to take away from a story. So as a mom the main character wasn’t someone I would want my kids emulating.

2.0 out of 5 stars Missed the mark completely!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 1, 2019
This one missed the mark. The story sounds like a decent idea, but it doesn't really make sense and the bear really doesn't know he peed his pants and the story follows him and weird way. The pictures are ok, but when we finished reading the kids said they didn't like it, which was surprising b/c my kids love pretty much any book with animals....
