4.0 out of 5 stars Absurdity That Toddlers Love to Find in a Book ...
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 19, 2018
Written and illustrated by Bob Shea, “Crash, Splash, or Moo!” is excellent read-aloud story that your toddler will enjoy since they are invited to participate in the story. The flamboyant Mr. McMonkey invites your shild to guess the results of “amazing stunts” performed by “fearless daredevils” – Action Clam and cow. Each ”Stunt” involves an amusing activity and Mr. McMonkey’s invitation to the child to guess the result. A correct guess wins the guesser a banana. Mr. McMonkey has no compunction in asking the “winner” to share the prizes.
Illustrations by Bob Shea are vivid, colorful, and simply done. The drawings have little visual depth; they are somewhat childish and cartoon-like. Nevertheless, this is a book targeted toward younger children. They seem to see the illustrations as being similar to what they are able to do. Thus, they may find the artwork very non-threatening and quite appealing.
The story of “Crash, Splash, or Moo!” is not complex and, for older children and adults, may be somewhat silly. Adults, however, may appreciate the asides the Mr. McMonkey cannot help but utter during the narrative. Toddlers, however, seem to find the wacky Mr. McMonkey and his guessing game quite engaging; they delight in having the book read repeatedly. This is an absurd book and one holding great appeal for little ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Read For A Bit
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 5, 2018
This is a fun silly book that is good for a few reads. My toddlers loved to guess what happens when we first read it and it was fun guessing for them. They liked the part where the cow does something and you have to guess what the cow does. I thought it would splash, but it just mooed. We read it a few times, but they got tired of it. It is a fun book for a few reads and then to go back to, but nothing too exciting that they will want to read daily.

It plays like a game and you guess what each character will do in each sequence. Once they know all the answers it gets redundant and boring. For initial fun factor this book is great.

4.0 out of 5 stars A game show disguised as a children's book
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 7, 2018
As you might expect, this is a wacky, silly, totally outrageous book. It's mock game show format is sure to coax giggles from the sulkiest of children and possibly even adults. Anyone who loves cows, monkeys, bananas and messes is bound to be a fan. This books stars Mr. Monkey, our game show host narrating the contest between Action Clam and a cow. Readers are asked to guess the outcome of each contest. Will it be crash, splash or moo? The colors are bright, the art has lots of movement and there are sound effects splashed across the pages. While it may not be ideal as a soothing bedtime story, Crash, Splash or Moo! is perfect for giggly, wiggly kids who have a hard time sitting still for books. It may even be especially good for children who don't believe that books can be fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars HAVE FUN GUESSING
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 29, 2018
Crash, Splash, or Moo! is a picture book that tries to capture the spirit of a tv game show for kids. And it's quite fun. The host, Mr. McMonkey, sets the stage as its two participants, Action Clam and a cow perform various stunts. It's the readers job to guess whether each stunt will end in a crash, splash, or a moo! For each guess you get right you get a banana, leading up to the secret prize.

This is a book better suited to the classroom because before each stunt the text says to raise your hand as you go through the three possible outcomes. So it would be cool to read on a day in your class when you have a little extra time or want to work on making predictions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun for Family Time
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 15, 2018
This is a fun book to have with the kids and others around. The only catch is that it sort of has a short shelf-life. The first time was great, the second time was good. But then after that, it sort of lost its appeal with the little ones. It's definitely fun, it just doesn't seem like it has a lot of staying power after a while.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick, easy read that kids seem to find hilarious
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 5, 2018
This book is so silly. A monkey MCs activities that super hero Action Clam and a cow do - the reader gets to guess if there will be a crash, a splash, or a moo. Winners get a golden banana. The little one finds it super hysterical, but of course, knew the outcome after the first read. It didn't keep him from reading it again and again, though, and giggling every time. "Why would the monkey guess that? He's trying to make us guess wrong!" So kids will enjoy this more than adults. Quick, easy read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A silly book for reading to pre-schoolers.Three and a half stars.
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 18, 2018
My initial reaction to this book was negative. The colors clash and are unattractive to my eyes. The style suits preschoolers but the plot would take explaining to many of them. Why should a 3-year old know about someone jumping a motorcycle over 10 school buses like Evil Knieval?

Yet this is a read-aloud book, so the reader can explain things as they go along. Little kids seem to like this! So I have to say it’s good for that, even if it does not appeal to me personally.

4.0 out of 5 stars cute book
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 11, 2018
Crash, Splash, Moo is a cute interactive book. I didn't realize that it was meant for reading with more than one, child, but I can make it work, so can you. This is a book for fun time, not bedtime and it's sort of the louder the better, and giggles will happen. This is a hardback book with paper pages, not a board book, so mind the child's age and the way they interact with books

4.0 out of 5 stars Engages kids attention. A love for reading = BONUS
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 10, 2018
I like the interaction that this book brings with it. Colorful, bright and bold. It will keep the attention of my kids ranging from 6-12. I like that they get to think about their prediction and it's very likable. Lots of laughs from my kiddos. That makes it a great book from my viewpoint.

4.0 out of 5 stars High energy
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 30, 2018
The illustrations and in-your-face fonts convey high energy which is sure to excite little kids. They can play along with the game show theme. It's fun but don't expect a story or any learning points though.
