I'm a teacher and I'd been hyping the kids (aged 6-15 yrs old) up about this book, telling them the words in this book can only be described as delicious even though it has descriptive language for snow sounds. Their review is "Mmmm delicious" And the pictures are wonderful. The story has a great build up, and the cross cultural connections made us feel seen. Highly recommend as an addition for everyone's libraries.
We had snow this year and the child I gave this too was extra I terstex in this book. A very lovely story about a little girl and her grandmother. Beautiful illustrations. All around excellent children book.
In this story, Lina wakes up to a blanket of snow outside, but she is supposed to help her grandma cook that day. Since Sitta is losing her eyesight, Lina rushes to bundle up and get over to her home. Lina wants to make sure her grandma is okay and knows about the snow outside. On the way, Lina explores the city muffled by snow and discovers ten different ways to hear snow.
The illustrations not only capture the magic and wonder of snow, but they complement the beautiful relationship between Lina and Sitta. This book has our family anxiously waiting for the first snow of the season.
I was hoping this story would be as beautiful as the title and it didn’t disappoint! I loved the relationship with the grandmother and granddaughter and the use of onomatopoeia! My only disappointment was the delay in delivery. I’d planned on it being a Christmas present.
